Rising Stars: Meet David Miranda of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Miranda.

Hi david , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Diana and I first met in Ecuador while we were both beginning our studies in architecture. At the time, she had already spent two years in Florence, Italy, studying furniture and interior design before returning home to Ecuador to pursue her degree in architecture.
As life would have it, we both eventually found ourselves in Miami independently and without ever knowing that our paths would cross again. One day, quite by chance, we ran into each other at a coffee shop and reconnected. Diana was working for a construction company, while I was completing my architecture degree at Florida International University.

After graduating, I began working at an interior design firm, and we continued to stay in touch. Some time later, Diana reached out to me about a project she had been given the opportunity to design. She was highly experienced in spatial planning, finishes, kitchens, bathrooms, and the architectural aspects of interiors, but wanted guidance when it came to furniture, brands, wallpaper, and decorative elements. She initially contacted me because I had a friend who owned a furniture store and she thought he could assist her with the project.

Instead, I realized that this was an area in which I could contribute directly. By then, interior design had become a significant part of my professional experience, and I had also grown up surrounded by the furniture industry through my family’s furniture businesses in Ecuador. Furniture, materials, and the art of creating environments had always been part of my world.

That first project became the beginning of something much greater.

At the time, we both had demanding nine-to-five jobs, so we worked on the project together during our evenings and weekends. As we collaborated, we quickly discovered how naturally our perspectives complemented one another. We shared a similar design sensibility, but approached each project from different experiences and disciplines. More importantly, we genuinely enjoyed working together. The process was challenging, creative, and, above all, fun.

That experience ultimately led us to create DIDA.

Since then, DIDA has evolved into a design practice dedicated to creating distinctive residential and commercial environments that bring together our shared perspectives on design, functionality, materiality, and craftsmanship. Every project begins with an understanding of our clients their needs, aspirations, lifestyle, and vision and develops into a space that feels both intentional and uniquely their own.

We believe that the details are what give a project its identity. We are constantly researching new materials, exploring innovative concepts, collaborating with artisans and artists, and designing custom pieces specifically for our spaces. These elements allow us to move beyond simply designing interiors and instead create environments with character, depth, and a sense of individuality.

At the heart of DIDA is our desire to create spaces that are thoughtful, functional, and deeply personal; while always leaving behind what we like to call the DIDA touch: a distinctive layer of creativity, craftsmanship, and unexpected detail that makes every project uniquely ours.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve faced struggles, as any partnership, business, or situation involving people and emotions inevitably does—designer egos, third-party contractors, and all the challenges that come with working together. But above all, our respect, ethics, and love for one another have always prevailed. They’ve given us the strength and the tools to overcome every struggle and come out victorious together.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What we love most is creating unique pieces for each project. We specialize in developing concepts that merge functionality, artistry, and craftsmanship to create one-of-a-kind furniture, lighting, and objects designed to become part of everyday life.
We also love collaborating with artists and artisans from around the world. There is something truly special about bringing different cultures, techniques, materials, and styles together to create something unexpected something unique and deeply personal to each project.

One of the things we enjoy most is getting to know our clients. Every project begins as an exciting opportunity to understand the person behind the space: their likes, hopes, lifestyle, personality, and sense of style. We take the time to understand how they live and what matters to them, so we can create spaces and pieces that not only reflect who they are, but ultimately enhance the way they experience their everyday life.

For us, design is not simply about creating beautiful things. It is about creating something meaningful, functional, and personal something that feels uniquely yours.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
For David playing with legos and instead of making the actual lego purchased and following the instructions creating my own shape and unique piece and for Diana going to see her dads projects as a GC and seeing the materials and finish project
