Today we’d like to introduce you to Alissa Guindi.
Hi Alissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Guatemala, but my family was always traveling which instilled a chip in me to know more of the world. Something that stuck out to me was how I remembered the places we went to based on what we ate there, and not the groundbreaking famous monuments. So I started thinking this is it, this is my calling.
I decided to study Culinary Arts, Nutrition, and Business thinking this was the perfect mix to be able to do the stuff I love. I ended up working as a part of the team of chefs in prominent restaurants in Guatemala, and a Michelin stared restaurant in Italy. At one point, I took out a certification in Mental Health and Nutrition, which opened my eyes to how easy it is to be happy and healthy while taking into account what we put in our bodies. Fast forward a few years later I decided to open Guindi Food. A business that focuses on nutritional consulting, recipe development, and travel content creation.
We create health challenges for regular people, housewives, working people, college students, and whoever wants to learn how to eat to be happy, sometimes this can be a form of weight loss, weight gain, or whatever your goals are. We are not here to tell you what to eat, but to teach you how to eat. We develop recipes that are easy, healthy, and can be modified to your own tastes.
Another big part of Guindi Food is travel content creation, normally involving food, but ranging from hotels to tour guide experiences. We find the places worth leaving your house for, and are always looking to collaborate with brands, hotels, and tourist agencies to curate amazing content and experiences for people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It absolutely hasn’t been a smooth road. From figuring out what areas to branch into, to getting clients, to making sure the social media presence we want is there, it’s one roadblock after the other. Recently we decided to start a new Instagram account which has a total of 0 posts so far while we figure out what we want the face of our brand to be.
Starting a new business is never easy, and coming from a family of entrepreneurs I can say for a fact it never gets easier. There will always be something, but In the line of business we cose, thankfully most things are solved by meeting more people and talking which is my strong suit.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Guindi Food is a food, wellness, and hospitality brand built around the belief that food should bring people joy, connection, and better health, not guilt or restriction.
The business has three complementary areas. On the hospitality side, Guindi Food offers consulting and creative services to restaurants and hotels, helping them strengthen their food and beverage presence, better understand their customers, and create authentic experiences and content that connect with today’s consumer. I’m especially passionate about working with hospitality brands because I believe there is so much more to a great hotel experience than the food itself—it’s the story, the atmosphere, the people, and the way the experience makes you feel.
Guindi Food also develops recipes and food-focused editorial content for magazines and publications. Recipe development allows us to combine creativity, nutrition, and accessibility to create recipes that are not only beautiful and delicious, but also realistic for people to incorporate into their everyday lives.
The third side of Guindi Food focuses directly on the consumer. Through health centered challenges and educational experiences, I aim to teach people how to build a sustainable relationship with food while taking both nutrition and mental well being into consideration. Rather than promoting restrictive diets or quick fixes, the goal is to encourage realistic, healthy habits that people can actually maintain and enjoy.
What sets Guindi Food apart is this intersection between food, hospitality, nutrition, and well-being. I don’t believe healthy eating has to mean giving up the foods, restaurants, travel, and experiences you love. I want to help people find balance while also helping hospitality brands understand how food and wellness are evolving.
What I’m most proud of from a brand perspective is that Guindi Food is rooted in something very personal: my genuine love for food, travel, people, and meaningful conversations. I want the brand to feel approachable and authentic while still being a trusted source of knowledge and inspiration.
Ultimately, I want readers to see Guindi Food as more than a food platform. It is a space where hospitality businesses can grow and connect with their customers, where publications can find thoughtful and creative food content, and where individuals can learn to enjoy food in a way that supports both their physical health and their mental well-being. My vision is to create a community that proves you don’t have to choose between being healthy and enjoying life, you can have both.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The biggest advice I could give anybody is to try and get in the room where the people you admire hang out. Weather it is a five star hotel bar, or a super expensive restaurant, you never know when you’ll meet just the right person to help you elevate your brand. Something that works for me is thinking “who cares what these people think? The worst that could happen is I get a no as a response and can move on with my life without wondering what if”
Something I pride myself in, is knowing I can talk to anyone about almost every topic. Being knowledgeable in many topics and areas of business can set you apart from a specialized person. People find it nicer to talk to someone that can have a wide array of conversations rather than a one trick pony.
