Check out Chris Burgett’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Burgett.

Chris, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up in a bi-racial household in Atlanta, GA. (Filipino & Black) mixing a love for culture, cuisine, music, & art played an essential role in formulating my backdrop for a future in graphic design. Infatuated with comic books & superheroes, I began recreating all my favorite drawings of wolverine, batman, & Spiderman. As sports & football became a major priority in my life, I became a standout athlete in high school & earned the privilege to play football at the University of Georgia & became a three-time South Eastern Conference Champion. And as one can imagine the time and focus playing collegiate sports demands, I used my love for art as an outlet from the day-to-day grind to escape into a different creative space. As time, practice, and a dedication to a craft makes one naturally progress, I began incorporating digital technology to advance my freehand artwork. I started creating flyers, logos, and websites for teammates and friends to earn cash.

As a firm believer that you have to go through it, in order to understand and evolve, I started my first marketing company called Grindstone promotions while still in college. With no direction or business experience to help guide my company, I was forced to close the doors after 1 hard year. In order to make a living, after graduation, I landed an internship with a commercial real estate company called Cushman & Wakefield. Working closely with the marketing department, I sharpened my creative business skills. After a decade of freelance design and developing my niche and building a network of like-minded creative thinkers, I relaunched my lifelong dream of running my own marketing agency called Mestizo Marketing in 2017. We’ve combined all our skills to provide creative design, branding, photography, and web design guidance and support.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We help start-ups, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits formulate their branding goals and develop their own unique branding strategy and identities. We focus on ROI through a series of measurables formulated to achieve company results. Our inspiration comes from the desire to provide big business software tools and professional services without the big business luxury tax.

Our goal over the next couple years is to combine all our talents and soon begin to expand our nonprofit objectives. We look forward to offering free courses within the urban communities that struggle to provide the software and technological tools necessary to keep up and educate the less fortunate students aspiring to become a part of the digital marketing industries.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
There are several measurables that can define a person’s success. One can measure success, but the two common ones are by monetary gains and popularity. As an artist, I believe everybody’s success level is going to vary depending on the individual’s personal aspirations in life.

I believe in order to be successful in this life, you have to completely dedicated to your craft. You have to practice the fundamentals necessary to achieve success such as: discipline, work ethic, relentless drive, and determination, but you also have to take calculated risk. You have to be willing to make yourself uncomfortable by attempting new things. You have to willing to embarrass yourself for the sake of growth. An artist has to step outside the box and explore creativity.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
