Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricé Guzman.
Hi Maricé, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States with my mom when I was 11 years old. Watching my single mother rebuild her life from scratch taught me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of creating opportunities where none seem to exist.
I went on to attend Wellesley College, one of the nation’s top liberal arts colleges, before earning my law degree from Emory University, a top-20 law school. After graduating, I spent several years practicing labor and employment law at national law firms representing corporations in complex workplace disputes. I later served as Employment Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice, advising on employment law matters and gaining further insight into the legal and strategic issues employers face.
Those experiences gave me a unique perspective on workplace disputes and ultimately led me to realize that my passion was advocating for employees. I founded MGJustice Law Firm to put my experience to work for individuals facing discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, and other workplace injustices.
Starting my own firm has been the most rewarding chapter of my career. As an immigrant, the daughter of a single mother, and now a business owner, I understand what it means to work hard for every opportunity. My mission is to empower employees with knowledge of their rights, level the playing field, and fight for the justice they deserve.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I traded the security of a steady paycheck for the uncertainty of building something from the ground up. Starting a law firm means wearing every hat: you are not only the attorney, but also the marketer, business owner, accountant, and problem solver.
As an immigrant and the daughter of a single mother, I also didn’t have a roadmap for entrepreneurship or a network of lawyers who had built successful firms. Much of what I’ve accomplished has come through persistence, learning from mistakes, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when things felt uncertain.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning that practicing law and running a law firm are two very different skill sets. Law school teaches you how to be a lawyer, but not how to build a business. I’ve had to learn marketing, branding, client acquisition, finance, and leadership while continuing to provide exceptional representation to my clients.
Looking back, every obstacle has made me a better attorney and a better business owner. Those experiences have taught me resilience, adaptability, and empathy, which are qualities that not only help me lead my firm but also allow me to better understand the challenges my clients face when their careers and livelihoods are on the line.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is that you will never feel 100% ready, and that’s okay. If you wait until you feel completely prepared, you may never take the leap. What’s important is having the courage to start, being willing to learn, and adapting as you go.
Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Some of my biggest lessons came from making mistakes, asking questions, and figuring things out along the way. You don’t need to have all the answers on day one—you just need the determination to keep improving.
Most importantly, believe in yourself. Building something meaningful takes time, resilience, and patience. Stay focused on your vision, embrace the learning process, and don’t let fear of imperfection keep you from pursuing your goals.
