Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Rebecca Nicholson.
Hi Dr. Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for inviting me!
I always had a strong sense of mission. At first, I thought the best way to pursue that mission was through politics. As a teenager, I began working on political campaigns, including the governor’s campaign, the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives, and private fundraising events.
It was during one campaign that I had my first out-of-body experience. I was talking to a candidate who was berating me and speaking abusively, and suddenly I was in two places at once. While I was pacing the floor listening to her, I was also crouched in the corner watching myself. I remember understanding that, one day, I would have to become one of those two people. I had watched so many people turn into shells of themselves from working in politics, and at that moment I decided I would not be among them.
She fired me the next day, and from there I went to graduate school. I earned my PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. I studied alongside people from conflict zones around the world. My classmates came from places like Sudan, Jordan, the Congo, Nigeria, and Palestine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road!
Learning about the tactics of war, structural violence, and systemic political manipulation is hard on the psyche. I went through what I would later understand as existential crisis, moral injury, and spiritually transformative experiences. When the psyche is strained enough, it sometimes results in a psychic opening. That is what happened for me.
I lost the career I thought I was supposed to have, but I gained my psychic abilities.
What I was always trying to do was find a way to make some difference in the world—to help relieve suffering. When you have a strong sense of purpose but feel thwarted in your efforts to achieve it, you sometimes wonder what the point is in continuing. The way through that darkness is discovering a new way of fulfilling your mission. Your work may look vastly different than you ever imagined.
I never guessed I would be doing spiritual work, practicing mediumship, or communicating with guides and angels. Seeing yourself from a spiritual perspective provides a different vantage point to your struggles, allows you to know yourself more deeply, and contextualizes the larger meaning of the trials and difficulties you faced.
It’s a far cry from where I started in politics. But what I do now helps people understand their own mission in life and understand where they are in the process.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is grounded in lived experience. What I have always been trying to do is find a way to make some difference in the world—to help relieve suffering. Over time, I have been forced to realized that purpose doesn’t always unfold in the way we expect. The way through darkness is discovering a completely different way of fulfilling your mission.
What sets my work apart is that it brings together disciplines that are rarely found in one place. I combine a PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution with decades of experience studying human conflict, qualitative research, behavioral dynamics, and spiritual intelligence. Rather than separating the practical from the spiritual, I help people understand how the two inform one another.
Alongside my spiritual work, I also conduct research and teach about what I discover. Since 2024, I have been conducting in-depth interviews with retired Special Operations Forces (SOF) veterans—people who also have a profound sense of mission. Suicide rates are high among military veterans and even higher among SOF. Understanding their inner conflict and recalibrating focus can help them redirect that sense of mission into civilian life. That research continually deepens my understanding of purpose, identity, and resilience in the face of silent suffering.
Whether you served in Special Operations or not, each of us is uniquely equipped to carry out our own work in the world. My role is to help you recognize that work, understand where you are in the process, and take your next step with clarity and confidence.
My primary offerings are two types of private sessions. Neutral Assessment is for people who are too close to a situation to see it clearly and need informed, objective perspective. Spiritual Intelligence is for situations that are emotionally, relationally, or professionally complex—when logic alone isn’t enough and you need a spiritual perspective. Together, these sessions help people better understand what is happening around them, how they are situated within the dynamics, and what perspective will help them move forward.
Looking back, I see my mission never changed. The methods changed—from politics, to conflict resolution, to spiritual work—but the purpose has always been the same: helping people reduce their suffering, navigate conflict, and reconnect with who they truly are.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are many ways to work with me. I speak and teach for organizations, conferences, retreats, universities, professional associations, and private groups.
My work bridges academic research, conflict resolution, and spiritual intelligence, bringing together perspectives that are rarely found in one place.
My presentations draw from both research and lived experience, offering practical insight into topics such as existential crisis, moral injury, spiritually transformative experiences, resolving inner conflict, psychic skill development, and finding purpose after (and during) life’s most difficult transitions. Programs can be tailored for both professional and general audiences and are available online or in person.
I also enjoy collaborating with researchers, clinicians, educators, nonprofits, and organizations that are exploring the intersections of conflict, psychology, spirituality, and human flourishing. Some collaborations involve teaching or consulting, while others focus on research, curriculum development, podcasts, interviews, or public conversations.
If you’re looking for more personalized support, I offer private sessions designed to help people gain clarity during times of uncertainty, conflict, or transition.
I’m always open to new ways of working together. If you have an idea for a collaboration or believe my work could benefit your audience, organization, or community, I’d love to hear from you.
