Life & Work with Maneesh Chatman of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maneesh Chatman.

Hi Maneesh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Like many of the spaces I create today, the Harmonizing Masculinity Collective (HMC) was born from recognizing a need that wasn’t being met. Throughout my own journey as a transmasculine person, I experienced firsthand how often transmasculine people are overlooked in conversations about health, healing, visibility, and community. While resources existed, many of us still lacked spaces where we could simply exist authentically, build genuine relationships, and heal without having to explain or defend our identities.

Rather than waiting for those spaces to appear, I helped create one.

HMC was founded to cultivate connection, healing, leadership, and belonging for transmasculine individuals across the spectrum. We approach wellness holistically—recognizing that our community deserves more than crisis intervention. We deserve joy, rest, education, mentorship, advocacy, cultural celebration, and opportunities to thrive.

Today, HMC has grown into a community initiative that offers peer support groups, leadership development, health and wellness programming, advocacy, social events like Pride N’ Play, and retreats such as *Echoes of Peace*. Our work also focuses on educating providers and organizations to better understand and serve transmasculine communities while ensuring our voices are included in broader LGBTQ+ conversations.

What began as answering a need has evolved into building a movement rooted in community, accountability, and healing. Every program we create is guided by one question: “What would have made this journey easier for the next transmasculine person?” That question continues to shape where HMC is going and reminds us that healing is not just personal—it’s communal.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has reinforced why this work is so important.

As a Black, transmasculine person, I’ve experienced what it means to navigate multiple systems that weren’t designed with people like me in mind. The intersection of being Black, transgender, and part of other historically marginalized communities often means facing barriers that aren’t just personal—they’re structural. Whether it’s healthcare, employment, housing, safety, or simply being seen and understood, those challenges can compound one another.

One of the greatest struggles has been visibility. Transmasculine people are frequently overlooked in conversations about transgender experiences, even within LGBTQ+ spaces. Our stories, health needs, mental wellness, and contributions often receive less attention, which can lead to isolation and a lack of culturally responsive resources.

Building HMC has also come with the realities of nonprofit leadership. Securing funding, earning trust, developing partnerships, and creating sustainable programming takes persistence, especially when advocating for communities that have historically been underfunded and underserved. There have been moments of exhaustion, setbacks, and difficult decisions, but there have also been moments that reminded me exactly why we continue.

The challenges have strengthened my commitment to creating spaces where transmasculine people don’t simply survive—we heal, lead, build community, and thrive. Every obstacle has become another reason to keep opening doors for those coming behind us. My hope is that the next generation won’t have to spend as much energy searching for belonging because together, we’re building it now.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear several hats, but they are all connected by one purpose: helping people return to themselves.

Through INNER-G Wellness Health LLC, I specialize in holistic wellness, spiritual healing, and transformational experiences that address the whole person rather than just isolated symptoms. My work blends sound healing, guided meditation, breathwork, chakra education, aromatherapy, herbal wellness, and mindfulness practices to create spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, process life’s experiences, and cultivate lasting inner peace.

Outside of my wellness practice, I also dedicate much of my time to community leadership and advocacy. As a founder of the Harmonizing Masculinity Collective, I work to create affirming spaces, leadership opportunities, and wellness initiatives for transmasculine people, ensuring our communities are not only represented but empowered.

What I’m most proud of isn’t a single event or accomplishment—it’s the lives that have been impacted. Whether someone leaves one of my healing sessions feeling lighter, discovers a renewed sense of purpose, finds community through one of our programs, or simply feels seen for the first time, those moments remind me why I do this work.

What sets me apart is that I don’t believe healing is one-size-fits-all. I approach every person as a whole human being with a unique story, recognizing that healing can be spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, ancestral, and even generational. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with you?” I ask, “What has happened to you, what wisdom have you gained, and how can we support your return to wholeness?”

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: people already possess the capacity to heal. Sometimes they simply need a safe space, the right tools, and someone willing to walk beside them as they remember who they were before life taught them to forget. That’s the work I’m honored to do every day.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the most important quality behind my success is intentionality. I don’t create programs, healing experiences, or community spaces simply to fill a need—I create them with purpose, integrity, and long-term impact in mind. Every decision I make is rooted in service, authenticity, and a genuine desire to help people reconnect with themselves and each other. That intentional approach has allowed me to build trust, meaningful relationships, and work that continues to make a difference.
