Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Quintero.
Hi Carmen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Art has always been my way of transforming simple materials into something meaningful. What began as a curiosity soon became a lifelong passion for creating beauty by hand.
My journey started with carved candles, where I discovered the extraordinary possibilities hidden within wax. Through years of practice and dedication, I learned to shape each candle with intricate patterns, delicate curves, and vibrant colors, turning a functional object into a collectible piece of art. Every design is carefully carved by hand, making each creation unique and impossible to replicate exactly.
As my artistic vision evolved, painting naturally became another language through which I could express myself. Inspired by flowers, nature, and timeless elegance, I create artworks that celebrate softness, color, and harmony. My paintings and carved candles complement one another, reflecting the same appreciation for craftsmanship and detail.
For me, creating is a slow and intentional process. It is an invitation to pause, appreciate beauty, and reconnect with the handmade in a world that moves so quickly. Every candle and every painting carries a piece of my story, my patience, and my love for art.
Today, I continue exploring new techniques while remaining faithful to the values that have guided me from the beginning: authenticity, creativity, and the belief that true artistry lies in the human touch. My hope is that each piece I create brings warmth, inspiration, and a sense of quiet joy to the people who welcome it into their homes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely not an easy journey. Like many artists, I faced moments of uncertainty, self-doubt, and the challenge of learning through trial and error. Candle carving requires patience, precision, and countless hours of practice, and many of my first creations did not turn out the way I imagined.
Starting over in a new country also meant adapting to a different culture, building a network from scratch, and finding new opportunities to share my work. There were times when balancing daily responsibilities with my creative passion felt overwhelming.
Another challenge was believing in the value of handmade art in a world of mass production. I had to learn that every unique piece carries something that cannot be replicated: the time, dedication, and emotion of the artist.
Instead of discouraging me, these obstacles became my greatest teachers. They pushed me to improve my techniques, explore painting alongside candle carving, and continue growing as an artist. Today, I see every challenge as an essential part of my journey and as a reminder that perseverance and passion can transform difficulties into beautiful creations.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create hand-carved candles and floral paintings that celebrate beauty, craftsmanship, and the art of slowing down. Every piece is made entirely by hand, with careful attention to detail, combining traditional techniques with my own artistic vision.
What makes my work different is that I don’t see a candle as just an object to be used—I see it as a sculptural piece of art. Each carved candle is individually designed, shaped, and finished, making every creation truly one of a kind. No two pieces are ever exactly the same.
My paintings reflect the same philosophy. Inspired by flowers and nature, I use soft colors, delicate compositions, and expressive brushstrokes to create a sense of peace and timeless elegance. Whether I am carving wax or painting on canvas, my goal is always the same: to create something that evokes emotion and brings beauty into everyday life.
I believe that true luxury lies in authenticity and in the human touch. Every candle and every painting carries my time, my passion, and my story. Rather than following trends, I focus on creating meaningful, handcrafted art that people can cherish for years.
For me, art is not only about creating beautiful objects—it is about creating moments, memories, and connections. That philosophy is what defines my work and what I hope people feel when they experience it.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Absolutely. I believe inspiration is everywhere, and I enjoy learning from many different sources. I love browsing art books, visiting museums and botanical gardens, and exploring the work of artists and artisans from around the world.
Digital platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram are wonderful tools for discovering color palettes, floral compositions, and creative ideas, while YouTube allows me to learn new techniques and continue growing as an artist.
I also find inspiration in nature itself. Flowers, gardens, changing seasons, and even the quiet moments of everyday life often spark new ideas for both my carved candles and my paintings.
More than following trends, I try to stay curious. Every book I read, every exhibition I visit, and every conversation I have can become the beginning of a new creation. I believe that creativity grows when we remain open to learning and to seeing beauty in the ordinary.
