Check Out IGNACIO’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to IGNACIO.

Hi IGNACIO, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Art has always been a part of who I am. I studied Architecture, a discipline I truly loved, but I never stopped painting. Even during university, I would organize my time so that, no matter how demanding my projects were, I could always make it to my studio and paint.

Soon after, gallery representation in Miami and Chicago encouraged me to dedicate myself entirely to painting. Before the age of thirty, I was already exhibiting in New York, and my paintings had been acquired by institutions and museums.

I believe an artist should embrace knowledge across disciplines, in a spirit that feels almost Renaissance. That philosophy naturally led me to expand my practice from painting into printmaking, drawing, oil painting, illustration, and ultimately sculpture, which today occupies most of my creative life.

Rather than saying I was born with a pencil in my hand, I believe I was born with an intense sense of observation. Everything has always fascinated me—textures, colors, forms, contrasts, light, and movement. Thankfully, that curiosity has never left me. My work is built from everything I have observed throughout my life, transforming those experiences into visual narratives.

Today, I am fully devoted to sculpture. In this medium, I have found a noble and deeply expressive material that fulfills me completely. I love every stage of the process, from the first humble sketch in clay to its transformation into the timeless elegance of bronze and gold. It is a long journey, requiring months of work and countless meticulous steps before a sculpture is complete. Watching an idea evolve from a simple piece of clay into a finished work of art fills me with energy every single time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, it hasn’t been an easy journey. There are really two very different realities: being an artist and making a living as an artist.
From a creative perspective, it has been an extraordinary path. I have never placed limits on my creative process. I’ve always allowed myself to experiment, explore new materials, develop new ideas, and move freely between different forms of artistic expression. I enjoy following curiosity wherever it leads and keeping an open mind to every possibility.
From a commercial perspective, especially in the early years of my career, the journey was much more challenging. The hardest part is simply getting people to discover your work. Today there are many platforms that help artists gain visibility, but many collectors, institutions, and buyers still prefer to invest in established names rather than taking the time to discover emerging artists and new ways of understanding art.
I believe there is something truly special about discovering an artist before they become widely recognized. The experience of enjoying a work of art should never depend on the fame of the person who created it. I hope galleries, auction houses, and major contemporary art collectors continue opening their doors to younger artists and fresh perspectives.
At the same time, I believe every obstacle becomes an opportunity. Challenges force you to leave your comfort zone, rethink your approach, search for new solutions, and find different ways to keep creating. Very often, that is exactly where the best ideas are born.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a visual artist, and my primary focus is sculpture. I create bronze works ranging from three-foot editions to monumental sculptures over twenty feet tall, many of which are installed in parks, public spaces, and major avenues.
I feel incredibly proud to have installed monumental sculptures on Lincoln Road and Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, and to have been named Artist of the Year by the Latin Grammy Awards. But beyond those recognitions, what truly makes me proud is being able to dedicate my life to what I love and seeing people connect with and enjoy my work.
I believe what distinguishes me from other artists is the way I observe the world. I enjoy incorporating a sense of humor into my work while celebrating sensuality, the beauty of the female form, and the elegance of the human figure. I like to transform ordinary moments into something unexpected through art.
My goal is to create works that invite people to dream, to offer them a brief pause in the middle of their day, and to allow them to experience art in a direct and approachable way, without relying solely on complex concepts. I love the idea that a sculpture can move someone simply through the experience of encountering it.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout this journey is to trust the process. Sometimes it’s difficult to allow yourself to get lost in a world of endless possibilities, surprises, and unexpected paths. But that’s exactly where the magic happens.
I believe it’s essential to enjoy the journey, to embrace the creative process and every stage of it, rather than focusing only on the destination. Very often, that journey takes you to places you never could have imagined if you hadn’t given yourself the freedom to explore. That’s why I believe it’s so important to experience every stage of the creative process instead of obsessing over making the perfect work of art.
