Meet DJ ShortyDooWop of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ ShortyDooWop.

Hi DJ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started deejaying after the death of my mother to deal with the depression from her death. Deejaying became my therapy and still is. I took lessons from the late DJ Griff Gotti and my passion brought me to where I am today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The only struggle was when the pandemic hit I only had 1 year experience so I had to find other ways to get experience. That’s when I discovered the iRig, and like thousands of other deejays, I consistently did live streams and joined many DJ competitions online and kept it moving.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What do you do & specialize in?
I’m DJ ShortyDooWop, an open-format DJ based in Fort Myers/Miami. I specialize in throwback hip-hop, soul, and R&B, and I’m known for reading the room and keeping the crowd moving. I’m a mixshow DJ on Vibe 92.7 FM Miami and creator of “The Get Down,” SWFL’s only all-throwback vinyl party.

What are you most proud of?
Winning the 2026 AmplifyHer Award, teaching with Girls Make Beats, and sharing stages with legends like KRS-One and Raekwon.

What sets you apart?
My energy and purpose.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality most important to my success is that I light up a room with my pure energy.

I bring good energy and I’m focused on making people feel good. When the energy’s right, the crowd’s right — and that’s what I’m known for.
