Rising Stars: Meet Corinne Miller of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corinne Miller.

Hi Corinne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since my first VoyageMIA interview, my story has continued to grow along with Mood 4 Cakes.

My journey started with a lifelong love for cooking, baking, and creating beautiful things, inspired by my grandmother’s kitchen and the memories I carry from that time. That passion eventually became a small bakery business in my home country, and later became a new beginning when my family and I moved to Florida and I rebuilt the business here in Broward County.

When I first shared my story, Mood 4 Cakes was still growing into its place in the local community. Since then, I feel like the business has become even more connected to the families and celebrations around me. I have had the chance to create custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, gender reveals, and many other special moments throughout Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, and the surrounding South Florida area.

One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been seeing how far a cake can travel emotionally and even physically. I have had the opportunity to create cakes for people visiting South Florida, families celebrating while on vacation, and even clients who take cakes with them to different places around the world. It is always exciting and emotional to know that something I made became part of a memory not only here locally, but sometimes far beyond Florida.

What has stayed the same is the heart of the business. Mood 4 Cakes is still very personal to me. Every cake is made to order, and I put a lot of care into the design, the flavor, and the final details. I continue to focus on cakes that are elegant, meaningful, and balanced in taste, using Swiss meringue buttercream and quality ingredients.

What has changed is the confidence, the growth, and the connection to the community. Starting over in a new country was one of the biggest challenges of my life, but seeing people come back, recommend me, and trust me with their most important celebrations has made this journey incredibly meaningful.

Being invited to share my story again feels very special. It reminds me that Mood 4 Cakes is not just growing as a business, but also becoming part of people’s memories, and that is something I am truly grateful for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
ver the past year, the challenges have changed. Mood 4 Cakes has grown, and with that came a new kind of learning. I had to understand how to handle more inquiries, more custom cake orders, and more expectations, while still keeping the business personal and true to who I am.

One of the biggest challenges for me is that I care a lot. Maybe sometimes too much. Every cake feels important to me because I know it is part of someone’s special moment. It can be a birthday, a wedding, a baby shower, a gender reveal, or a family celebration — but for the person ordering it, it really matters. So I feel that responsibility every time.

Another challenge is balancing creativity with what is realistic. Many clients send beautiful inspiration photos, and I always try to understand the feeling they are looking for. At the same time, I have to guide them toward something that works with my style, my ingredients, the timing, the weather, and the structure of the cake. Since I work mainly with Swiss meringue buttercream, I always think about both the look and the taste, especially here in South Florida.

Running a small business also means doing many things at once. It is not only baking and decorating. It is answering clients, planning designs, ordering supplies, managing schedules, pricing correctly, and still making time for my family. Some days are very full, and some weeks are intense.

But I can honestly say that every challenge has helped me grow. Since the last article, I feel more confident, more focused, and more connected to the community around me. Seeing customers come back, recommend Mood 4 Cakes to others, and trust me again with their celebrations in Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, and the surrounding South Florida area makes all the hard work feel worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My professional life today is a mix of baking, design, and people.

Through Mood 4 Cakes, I create custom cakes from my home studio in Davie, serving families throughout Broward County and the South Florida area. Most of the people who come to me are celebrating meaningful moments in their lives. Sometimes it is a birthday, sometimes a wedding, sometimes a baby shower or a small family gathering, but behind every order there is always a story, and that is the part I care about the most.

I think people know me for cakes that feel soft, detailed, and elegant, but still warm and personal. I love creating designs with buttercream textures, delicate colors, florals, vintage details, and a romantic feeling. At the same time, taste is just as important to me as the design. I work mainly with Swiss meringue buttercream because I love that it feels lighter, smoother, and more balanced, without being overly sweet.

What I specialize in is taking someone’s idea and turning it into something that feels right for their celebration. A client may send me an inspiration photo, a color palette, a party theme, or sometimes just a feeling they want the cake to have. My job is to listen, guide them honestly, and create something beautiful that also works in real life, with the right structure, flavors, timing, and details.

What I am most proud of is the trust and connection I have built with my clients. It may sound a little cheesy, but many of my clients really do start to feel like family. I do not know many bakeries where clients hug you with so much love, and sometimes even tears, because of a cake. There are moments when a client sends me a thank-you message after an event, and I find myself crying from emotion while reading it. Those moments are never something I take for granted.

I think what sets me apart is that I truly care about the whole experience. I care about how the cake looks, how it tastes, how it is packaged, how it arrives, and how the client feels when they sees it for the first time. I am a small business, so every order still feels personal to me.

For me, a cake is not just something pretty on the table. It is part of the memory. Being able to create that for people and families who trust me with their special moments is something I am very grateful for.

What were you like growing up?
I may be a little biased, but I truly believe my grandmother made the best food in the world. Growing up, one of my favorite things was sitting next to her in the kitchen and watching her cook. I loved the smells, the movement, the patience, and the way everything she made felt full of love.

As I got older, food naturally became part of my life in a bigger way. My parents worked long hours, so I was often the one making food for my siblings. Later, it became holiday meals, hosting friends, trying new recipes, and eventually trying to recreate for my own children the same foods and flavors I grew up with.

For a long time, I always thought it was amazing when people had hobbies they loved so much that they could turn them into their work. But for some reason, I never imagined that food or baking would become my profession.

My husband was actually the one who kept encouraging me. He believed in me before I fully believed in myself. He kept telling me that I was good at baking and that maybe I should try selling my cakes. Slowly, I started to take the idea more seriously.

A lot of what I know today, I taught myself. I spent countless hours watching YouTube videos, Instagram tutorials, TikToks, reading, practicing, trying, failing, and trying again. I learned techniques, design, structure, flavors, buttercream, and all the small details that go into creating a cake that feels special.

Looking back, I think I was always connected to food, family, creativity, and making people feel cared for. I just did not know yet that all of those things would eventually come together and become Mood 4 Cakes.
