Conversations with Leydis Serrano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leydis Serrano.

Hi Leydis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for wedding planning actually started when I was a little girl watching The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez. I remember being completely captivated by the idea of creating beautiful celebrations and helping couples experience one of the most important days of their lives.

I was born in Cuba and raised in Miami by a single mom who taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. Like many people, I didn’t immediately know what I wanted to do with my life. I explored different careers and spent years trying to find where I truly belonged, but nothing ever felt quite right.

Then wedding planning found me.

I started helping brides put together their special day, and something just clicked. It never felt like work. I loved getting to know each couple, hearing their story, and helping bring their vision to life. Seeing everything come together and watching the joy on their faces is a feeling that never gets old.

What began as something that almost landed in my lap turned into a career that I genuinely love. I’ve been doing this for over 12 years now, and it’s still my happy place. Being trusted with such an important chapter in someone’s life is something I never take for granted, and I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for anything worth building in life.

There have been a lot of ups and downs over the years, and like many entrepreneurs, I’ve had moments where I had to push through uncertainty and trust the process. The biggest challenge by far was COVID. Our industry was hit so hard, and suddenly weddings were being postponed, canceled, or completely changed. It was a difficult time for everyone involved, especially for the couples who had been dreaming about their wedding day for so long.

There were definitely moments when it would have been easy to feel discouraged, but my love for this career never changed. If anything, it reminded me why I do what I do. Being able to support couples during such an emotional time and help them navigate those challenges made my work feel even more meaningful.

Looking back, one of the things I’m most grateful for is the relationships I’ve built along the way. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible couples from all walks of life, hearing their stories, and being part of such an important moment in their journey. I’ve also built lasting friendships and connections with amazing vendors who have become like family over the years.

The road hasn’t always been easy, but I wouldn’t change it. Every challenge has taught me something, and every couple I’ve worked with has reminded me why this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping couples plan one of the most important days of their lives. As a wedding planner and designer, I love bringing each couple’s unique vision and story to life in a way that feels true to them.

What I enjoy most is building real relationships with my couples and being someone they can trust throughout the process. Wedding planning is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, and I take pride in helping couples feel supported and confident every step of the way.

The most rewarding part of my work isn’t the beautiful venues or décor, it’s seeing couples fully enjoy their day and hearing afterward how much it meant to them.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care. Every wedding matters to me, and I treat each one with the same dedication and attention I would give to a close friend or family member.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: I want my couples to enjoy the journey, feel cared for, and create memories they’ll cherish for a lifetime.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned as a wedding planner is that things don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

No matter how much planning goes into a wedding, there will always be little surprises along the way. What truly matters is that the couple is surrounded by the people they love and gets to enjoy the moment.

Over the years, I’ve learned that my job is not just about timelines and details it’s about helping couples feel calm, present, and able to make memories they’ll cherish forever. Those genuine moments are always what people remember most.
