Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovanny M.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing makeup at MAC cosmetics right after high school. I had no experience, no beauty school training, but I had a great team that helped mold me into the way MAC Artists did makeup. Being the youngest person that worked at MAC without having to go through tons of prerequisite was a sign I knew I was destined to be good at beauty.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being in the arts is never easy. It’s very akin to hustle culture. You have to make every interaction count and really take authority with knowing YOU ARE THE AUTHORITY. The biggest struggle is living in Miami full time. We have this thing called “slow season”, but beauty is something no one is going to stop purchasing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in skin, I love to give women the full glam look, without using 10,000 products. The eyes can be adorned with one product, that’s the easy part. However, skin… you can’t fake that. I’m proud of all the women in Miami I’ve helped. They’ve been taught you need 10 products to achieve what they see on social media. Not the case. What sets me apart from others is, I’m not a character, my personality is real and raw, and I feel people respect that.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Definitely watching my mom get ready. My mom is the coolest person I know. Her fashion, her makeup, it was always all black, fashion forward, and her makeup was always from MAC.
