Life & Work with John R. Lorfils of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to John R. Lorfils.

Hi John R., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in real estate back in 2002. I was introduced to the field by a friend of my father. At the time I was looking for something different to do and I know I wanted to do something that helped people in my community. When real estate was introduced to me, I knew instantly this was afield I wanted to be part of. I originally started out as a mortgage broker on the finance side, then a two years later I became both a licensed real estate agent and licensed mortgage broker. My real estate practice has opened several doors for me and has introduced me to several new people that I am still friends with today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles for me was weather the storm of the recession back in 2008. Business was very slow and a lot of people move on to do other things in life, but I stuck with it, but it wasn’t easy. It’s one of the most challenging seasons of my life, but I am thankful for the lessons and resilience I’ve learned along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in working with first-time home buyers and sellers. Second time homebuyers and commercial real estate. What sets me apart from others is that I do this for the love of the field and for the love of making sure that members of my community understand that when they purchase a home that they are part of what raises the value of a community and that they are also building legacy. Too many service providers are dishonest and only do this for a commission.

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck is really about preparation and positioning. You never realize you’re in the right place or position until an opportunity presents itself and you were ready to receive it in the moment. Like they say, stay ready so you never have to get ready.
