Meet Chris Latchmansingh of Latch Life Cuts & Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Latchmansingh.

Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always believed that success comes from hard work, persistence, strong relationships, and faith. My journey started when I was 13 years old, cutting hair out of my parents’ garage while I was a freshman in high school. After spending countless hours waiting in barbershops, I remember thinking, “I can do this.” I asked my parents for a small loan to buy my first set of clippers and supplies, and I began cutting my younger brothers, friends, and baseball teammates.
What started as a hobby quickly grew into something much bigger. Before long, I was cutting the hair of classmates, teachers, and people throughout my community. During high school, my baseball coach gave me the nickname “Latch,” which came from my last name, Latchmansingh. That nickname eventually became the inspiration behind the name Latch Life Cuts & Styles, a name that has represented me ever since.

Barbering has been my first and only career. Throughout high school, I worked tirelessly, saved every dollar I could, and focused on building both my skills and my clientele. I attended the University of Central Florida before transferring home to finish my degree in finance at Florida Atlantic University. During that time, I made a decision that would change my life.
My parents always taught me to let one investment create the opportunity for the next. With about $2,000 to my name, I invested in American Airlines when the company was going through bankruptcy and its stock had dropped dramatically, making that purchase when I was 16 years old in 2010. At the time, it felt like a huge risk, but I believed in the long-term opportunity. When the company recovered, I used the profits from that investment to help open my first barbershop in 2015.
That first shop was humble. I could only afford six barber chairs, there wasn’t even a sign outside, and every dollar I made went right back into the business. My vision, however, was much bigger than what I could afford at the time. Through consistency, long hours, and an unwavering commitment to quality, I gradually filled every chair. As demand grew, I expanded until the shop reached its full capacity of 15 barber stations.

In 2020, I opened my second location in Wellington. Opening a new business during the COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges I never expected. Like many small business owners, we were forced to shut down temporarily and suffered significant financial setbacks. There were moments when it would have been easy to quit, but I stayed committed to my vision, trusted God’s plan, and kept moving forward.

In 2025, we opened our third location in Westlake. Today, Latch Life Cuts & Styles has three thriving locations, nearly 40 team members, and continues to grow. While I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built, I’m even more proud of the culture behind it. My business has always been built on relationships. I believe in knowing every member of my team personally, investing in their success, and creating an environment where people enjoy coming to work and clients feel like family.
Outside of business, my greatest motivation is my family. I’m the proud father of a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. Everything I do is fAs I approach my 33rd birthday, my vision is bigger than ever. My goal is to franchise Latch Life Cuts & Styles and build one of the most recognized barbershop brands in America. We’re just getting started, and I’m excited to see where this journey leads next.or them. They remind me every day why it’s important to keep building, keep improving, and leave behind something meaningful.

Most importantly, I give all the glory to God. My faith has carried me through every challenge, every setback, and every opportunity. I truly believe that everything I’ve accomplished has been possible because of His guidance and blessings. My parents also instilled values in me that continue to shape the way I lead today: always be honest, treat people with respect, work hard, and go to bed each night knowing you’ve done the right thing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
If I said the journey has been smooth, I’d be lying. Owning a business is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but it’s also one of the hardest. Every stage of growth brings a new set of challenges.

One of the biggest obstacles has been finding the right people. In the barber industry, talent is only one piece of the puzzle. You also need professionalism, reliability, a strong work ethic, and someone who genuinely cares about clients and the team around them. Those qualities are much harder to find than technical skill alone. While I’m fortunate to have an incredible team today with a very high retention rate, I’ve also had to make difficult decisions over the years. Not everyone is the right fit for the culture we’ve built, and protecting that culture has always been more important than simply filling a chair.

Creating the right environment has always been one of my biggest priorities. A barbershop is more than a place to get a haircut—it’s where people come to relax, have conversations, and feel welcomed. Every person who joins our team contributes to that atmosphere, so I never hire just to hire. I look for people who fit our values, treat others with respect, and genuinely want to grow.

Like many business owners, COVID-19 was another major challenge. Having to close our doors for an extended period created financial stress and uncertainty, especially while trying to continue building the business. There have also been plenty of behind-the-scenes obstacles, from permitting delays and construction issues to the countless unexpected problems that come with opening new locations. Those are the parts of entrepreneurship that most people never see.

Through all of it, I’ve learned that challenges are simply part of the journey. Whether it’s business, relationships, fitness, or life in general, nothing worthwhile comes without adversity. The key is staying consistent, keeping your faith, and continuing to move forward even when things don’t go according to plan. I’ve always believed that success isn’t about avoiding obstacles—it’s about learning how to work through them. Every challenge I’ve faced has made me a better business owner, a better leader, and a better person.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Latch Life Cuts & Styles?
At Latch Life Cuts & Styles, we specialize in premium men’s grooming, but what we truly provide goes far beyond a haircut. We offer everything from classic cuts and modern styles to skin fades, tapers, blowouts, beard grooming, scissor cuts, hot towel services, black mask facials, and work with every hair type and texture. No matter who walks through our doors, our goal is for them to leave looking their best and feeling even better.

What sets us apart isn’t just the quality of our work—it’s the experience. We never wanted to build a barbershop where clients felt like they were being rushed through an assembly line. We believe every appointment deserves time, attention to detail, and genuine conversation. When someone sits in one of our chairs, they’re not just another haircut; they’re a connection that we value.

I’ve always believed that a great barber is part artist, part professional, and part therapist. For many men, the barbershop is one of the few places where they can disconnect from the stress of everyday life, relax, have meaningful conversations, and simply enjoy the moment. Whether we’re talking about business, family, sports, marriage, or life’s challenges, we strive to create an environment where every client feels welcomed, respected, and appreciated. That sense of community is something we’ve intentionally built from day one.

Our company has always been relationship-driven. The relationships we have with our clients are just as important as the relationships we have with our team. I personally believe that when you take care of your people, they’ll take care of your customers. That’s why we’ve built a culture centered around professionalism, respect, accountability, and continuous growth. Every barber on our team represents the standard we’ve worked so hard to establish.

After nearly 12 years in business and maintaining a 4.8-star rating or better across our locations, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve earned. You don’t build that kind of trust overnight—it comes from delivering consistency, paying attention to the smallest details, and treating every client like they’re your most important client.

More than anything, I want people to know that when they visit Latch Life Cuts & Styles, they’re getting more than a haircut. They’re joining an environment built on relationships, positivity, and excellence. From the moment they walk through the door until the moment they leave, we want them to feel welcomed, confident, and valued. Looking great is the result—but creating an unforgettable experience is the mission that drives everything we do.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset. Even as a kid, I was constantly looking for ways to earn my own money instead of asking my parents for it. I’d pull weeds, wash cars, clean garages, or do just about any odd job someone needed. I enjoyed the feeling of working hard and earning something through my own effort, and I think that’s where my passion for business really began. I’m also extremely completive, I strive to be the best I can at everything I do.

I’ve also always been very outgoing and social. I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and building relationships, which has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to grow my business. I was never someone who stayed to myself—I got along with just about everyone. I played baseball throughout my childhood, and sports taught me discipline, teamwork, and the value of putting in consistent effort to improve.

One thing that’s always been important to me is presentation. I’ve believed for a long time that when you look your best, you feel your best. I’ve been getting a haircut every week since I was a teenager because I take pride in my appearance and in carrying myself professionally. That appreciation for grooming and attention to detail naturally evolved into the standards I’ve built for my business today.

Most of all, I was simply a kid who loved cutting hair. While other kids were focused on different hobbies, I was spending my free time behind the chair, practicing my craft and building relationships with people in my community. Looking back, I didn’t realize I was building a career—I was just doing something I genuinely loved.

My faith has also been a constant throughout my life. I believe that if you work hard, treat people the right way, stay humble, and trust God’s timing, everything else will fall into place. Those values continue to guide me as a father, business owner, and leader today.
