Exploring Life & Business with Dr Taylor Bergstrom of Celsa Foot and Ankle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Taylor Bergstrom.

Hi Dr Taylor, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the Atlanta area in Georgia and have always been interested in science and helping people, which led me to study Biology at the University of Georgia. During college, I became fascinated by the complexity of the foot and ankle and how much they impact a person’s mobility and quality of life, so I decided to pursue podiatric medicine.

I earned my Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago before moving to South Florida for a three-year foot and ankle reconstructive surgical residency at HCA JFK Hospital. My residency gave me extensive experience treating everything from sports injuries and fractures to complex reconstructive surgery, diabetic limb salvage, and wound care. During my chief resident year, I had the opportunity to present research at national conferences, publish scientific work, and complete advanced training in arthroscopic surgery.

Today, I’m proud to care for patients at Celsa Foot and Ankle in Delray Beach, where I founded a practice centered on compassionate, personalized foot and ankle care. I enjoy treating patients of all ages, whether it’s helping an athlete return to competition, relieving someone of chronic heel pain, or correcting a deformity that’s been affecting their daily life. As someone who leads an active lifestyle, I have a special passion for sports medicine and understand firsthand how frustrating it can be when an injury keeps you from doing what you love.

My goal is always to provide individualized care, starting with the most conservative treatment whenever appropriate while offering advanced surgical solutions when they provide the best long-term outcome. Helping people regain their mobility, recover from injury, and return to the activities they’re passionate about is what makes this career so rewarding. Whether it’s a young athlete recovering from an ankle sprain, a runner training for their next race, or someone simply wanting to walk without pain, there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing my patients get back on their feet with confidence.

Outside of the office, I enjoy long-distance running, water sports, traveling, and spending time with my husband and our dog Scoobert who keeps us both entertained and often accompanies me to the office, where he jokingly becomes one of my patients! Most weekends, you’ll find us with family and friends enjoying the South Florida beaches, snorkeling, swimming, and spearfishing, or at Lake Keowee in South Carolina, where we love water skiing, wakeboarding, and slalom skiing. Staying active isn’t just a hobby, it’s a big part of who I am. It helps me better understand the goals of the athletes and active patients I care for every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a completely smooth road. Like any career in medicine, there were definitely challenges along the way. Podiatric medical school and surgical residency are incredibly demanding, both academically and physically. Residency meant long hours, overnight call, and learning how to make important decisions under pressure while caring for patients with everything from routine injuries to complex reconstructive cases and diabetic limb salvage.

After training, another major challenge was starting my own practice. Building a practice from the ground up is exciting, but it also comes with a steep learning curve. You’re not only focused on providing excellent patient care but you also have to learn the business side of medicine, build relationships within the community, earn patients’ trust, and create a team and culture that reflect your values. It takes patience, persistence, and a lot of hard work.

I also moved from Georgia to Illinois for medical school and then to South Florida for residency, so there were several times when I had to step outside my comfort zone and start over in a new place.

Looking back, each of those challenges helped shape me into the physician I am today. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of surrounding yourself with a great team. The most rewarding part is seeing our practice grow and knowing that patients trust us with their care. Helping people get back on their feet and improving their quality of life makes all of those challenges worthwhile.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Celsa Foot and Ankle?
At Celsa Foot and Ankle, our mission is simple: to provide exceptional, compassionate foot and ankle care that helps patients get back to living their lives without pain. We care for patients of all ages, treating everything from everyday foot pain and sports injuries to complex reconstructive conditions, diabetic foot care, wound care, and limb preservation.

One of the things that sets our practice apart is that we take the time to truly listen to our patients. Every treatment plan is personalized because no two patients, or their goals, are the same. We believe in educating our patients so they understand their condition and all of their treatment options. Whenever possible, we begin with conservative treatments, but when surgery is the best solution, we offer advanced surgical techniques designed to restore function and improve quality of life.

We have a special interest in sports medicine, pediatric and adult flatfoot reconstruction, bunion correction, ankle injuries, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, and diabetic limb salvage. We want to make your care as convenient as possible. That’s why we offer in-house digital X-rays for quick diagnosis and custom orthotics designed specifically for your feet, so you can get the personalized treatment you need all in one place.
Whether someone is training for a marathon, keeping up with their children or grandchildren, or simply wants to walk comfortably again, our goal is to help them return to the activities they enjoy.

As a newer practice, I’m especially proud of the culture we’re building. We want every patient to feel welcomed, respected, and genuinely cared for from the moment they walk through our doors. We’re creating a practice where patients receive not only high-quality medical and surgical care but also the personal attention and accessibility that can sometimes be missing in larger healthcare settings.

Ultimately, I want people to know that at Celsa Foot and Ankle, they’re more than just an appointment on the schedule. We take pride in building lasting relationships with our patients and being a trusted resource for their foot and ankle health for years to come.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think luck plays a role in everyone’s journey, but I also believe you have to be prepared to make the most of the opportunities you’re given.

I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors throughout my education and surgical training who challenged me, supported me, and helped shape the physician I am today. I’ve also been blessed with the unwavering support of my family, friends, and colleagues, especially during the demanding years of medical school, residency, and the exciting journey of opening my own practice. My parents, who are both in the medical field, have been an especially important source of encouragement and have set a wonderful example of dedication and compassion throughout my life. My partner has been an incredible source of support, always encouraging me through the challenges and celebrating every milestone along the way. I’m also grateful for my strong, supportive sisters whose encouragement and confidence in me have meant more than they know.

Of course, not every opportunity feels like “good luck” at the time. Starting a practice from the ground up is a leap of faith. You’re building a reputation, earning the trust of patients one relationship at a time, and balancing the responsibilities of being both a physician and a business owner. There are moments of uncertainty, but those challenges have helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Looking back, I believe success comes from a combination of opportunity, hard work, and resilience. I’ve been fortunate to have opportunities come my way, but I’ve also worked hard to prepare for them. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, and every patient who trusts our practice reminds me why taking that leap was worth it.
