Today we’d like to introduce you to Jedaiah The Chosen.
Hi Jedaiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey, yes! Growing up, my grandma raised me because my mother and father could not. I experienced a lot of childhood trauma and, as a teenager, became very depressed. I was addicted to drugs and eventually, a couple of days before I turned 18, I tried to take my life. On a hospital bed is where I encountered the living God. Jesus Christ revealed Himself to me, and I have never been the same since.
But when I had no hope, there were two things that helped me hold on: my family and music. When you feel alone, you can always put on a song and really feel as if the artist understands you and is with you in your darkness.
My love of music, like every child, started from shows and movies like Hannah Montana and Camp Rock. I don’t have many happy memories from childhood, but when I do, they almost always involve music. Times where I would just sit with headphones on, blast music, and sing at the top of my lungs. Times where my brothers and I would just be rapping. Or even one time, when I did live with my mother for a bit, where we had a whole talent show at the house and I got to rap for my family. I know my uncle has a video clip on his laptop somewhere of me rapping Nicki Minaj.
Point being, music has always been a big part of my life. I never thought that I would do it. I never thought I could do it. But through the love and encouragement of my community, I found a piece of myself that I didn’t know was missing.
I remember driving in my car and feeling super lost with no direction in life, and in that moment, I asked God for a sign. When I opened my eyes, there it was — a license plate with three words on it: “RAP.” I just started laughing because little old me? Rap? I never thought it would become one of the biggest parts of my life today.
One of my biggest encouragements has been my friend Nick Barron. He is an independent artist and producer who has a heart for unity in the Kingdom of God. I remember reaching out to him and him being the first person I shared my desire to take music seriously with, and receiving that support meant the world. It’s one thing to have a dream, but it’s so much more special when the people around you believe in you and pour into that passion.
As for where I am today with music, it’s only God. I get in the studio with my producer, Matt Adams, and we absolutely create magic. I can’t thank God enough for all the people He has placed around me to help me not give up on my dreams.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth. As I mentioned earlier, struggling with addiction and mental health issues was a huge wall in my life, but once I handed over all of my baggage to God, he literally made my burdens light. Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” I think when people hear me say “God saved my life”, they think very simply, very generic, but no, if it had not been for Jesus Christ, I would not be alive. It’s only through him that I’m alive and functioning with no disability of my mind of any sort. It’s a lie to say Christians have it easy; no, actually, life is pretty difficult. I am balancing my wants and needs in reality versus faith for the things that I am believing God to do.
But I think that when you are walking in obedience to God, and you are sure God told you to do something, it’s like an insurance policy. I know God told me to make music, so I’m going to do it no matter how I feel. I’m going to do it even if I’m scared, or even if I feel like I’m not good enough. I know God has given me all of the tools I need to succeed, and it comes down to endurance. Like, hey, maybe I did go into the studio for hours, and maybe I did leave with a song that I don’t totally love, but at the end of the day, I know the world is not ending. If we frame our dreams that way, like obedience instead of my “little” dreams or my “little” goals, we live with the fear of the Lord. God has a unique plan and purpose for every single individual, whether you are called to music, art, or entrepreneurship. Trust him. And I won’t lie, I have had huge trust issues with God, but it comes down to faith. Either you believe God when he said you can do it, or you don’t believe him. It’s not about us, it’s about Him. All of it, everything we do, points back to Him.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Christian Hip-Hop artist and evangelist. My main focus is advancing the Kingdom of God through using the gifts that the Lord has so graciously provided me with. I am really known for my testimony. I have always shared what the Lord has done in my life with others, whether it be in schools that I visit with First Priority which is an after-school Christian club, or just with strangers I encounter at the grocery store.
I have been told by several people that they admire my boldness. I do something called open-air preaching, where I go into random public places and shout the Gospel at the top of my lungs.
I have done a lot of things in my life, and I have quite a few accomplishments throughout the years. I am a published artist, writer, and musician, but what I am most proud of is actively bringing people to Jesus. I am actively discipling the nations, and more than anything, I believe if the Lord were to say what makes Him happiest out of everything I do, it would be that I have a heart for the lost and want to share the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
What sets me apart from others is love. I can love a stranger like I love my own brother. I can see in people what most people cannot, and I am able to see Jesus even in the most broken person
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Advancing the Kingdom of God. Evangelizing to all people give me joy! I have watched God save people , the way he saved me. It’s seeing the transformative power of the Holy Spirit that worked in me, work in someone else. Everything Godly makes me happy, Freedom in Christ is freedom in life.
