Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Clarke.
Hi Dave, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for storytelling began at just 3 years old, watching horror thrillers with my parents and growing up on iconic pop culture films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Stephen King’s IT. By the age of 10, I got my first camera and created a parody of The Blair Witch Project with my friends from elementary school. I just loved doing it and creating.
In High school i studied Tv production and shot my 1st Youtube film with my cousin in 2007. After graduating, financial barriers prevented me from attending film school. Instead, I returned to South Florida and created our YouTube channel, RoadToHollywoodTV, with my best friends. That decision launched my content creation journey and helped shape the path for myself on the internet ever since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is it ever a smooth road for anyone? Haha. My main struggle was balancing my real life while staying consistent with content creation and finding the right balance. It’s hard to replace a typical 9-to-5 job by creating content that generates enough full-time income to live on. You have to become your own boss and set your own pace, which requires a long-term commitment and crucial sacrifices, like giving up family time and even putting your dating life on hold. It gets tough having to make those choices, grow, and stay patient all at the same time. But when you truly love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Directing, acting, and editing have always been my greatest passions. I’ve been fortunate to have a fun, diverse, and creative journey alongside many talented people. From going viral on YouTube and WorldStarHipHop with the friends I grew up with to shooting my first feature film in just 10 days with those same people and watching it all come together, it’s truly been a dream come true. What sets me apart is my deep understanding of culture and my ability to translate it into compelling visuals that capture the same energy and feeling I’ve always been drawn to as a fan.
What’s next?
Our first feature film, Day 1, is currently in the final stages of post-production. It’s just the first glimpse of what’s to come. With so many streaming platforms and YouTube horror films making a huge impact on the theatrical box office, it’s clear that audiences are hungry for these modern stories. I have new stories in mind that will deliver authentic experiences while helping give a voice to modern culture in a fun and engaging way. I’m excited for what’s ahead—this is only the beginning.
