Daily Inspiration: Meet Arthur Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Gonzalez.

Hi Arthur, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
There was a series of shirts I had in mind that I wanted to purchase but could never seem to find, despite constantly searching. I was looking for something provocative and playful, yet thoughtfully designed—something that felt intentional rather than like a novelty gift-shop souvenir.
With so many new tools available, I dove into research, learning how to build a website, develop design concepts, and partner with reliable print-on-demand companies to bring the vision to life.
Of course, that’s a much simpler version of the story. The reality involved countless hours of trial and error, late nights, and more than a few lessons learned along the way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not.
But that’s part of the process, right?
Getting everything set up was a long and often tedious journey. There were plenty of moments when I wanted to throw in the towel. More than a few times, I questioned whether it was worth the effort. Thankfully, I kept going.
Today, people around the world are wearing designs that started as ideas in my head. That’s still wild to me because this was never part of some grand plan. I didn’t set out to build an apparel brand. In fact, it wasn’t even on my radar.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from the experience, it’s how little we truly know about where life can take us. Sometimes the things that bring us the most fulfillment begin as a simple curiosity, a side project, or an idea we can’t quite shake.
Now, if I’m being completely transparent, I’ve only solved a fraction of the puzzle. The designs, the website, the fulfillment, the customer experience—I feel good about those. Marketing outreach, advertising, social media growth, and finding ways to cut through the noise? I’m still learning those ropes every day. (If anyone has any tips – pleassse send my way!)
But I understand that building something meaningful isn’t about having all the answers from the start — perhaps ever. It’s about being willing to learn the next thing once you’ve figured out the last.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, I work as a Human Resources Business Partner, helping leaders and organizations build high-performing teams, navigate change, and create stronger workplace cultures. Outside of my career, I’m a writer at heart. I write young adult and children’s literature, and storytelling has been a lifelong passion of mine.
What I’m most proud of is refusing to limit myself to a single identity. For a long time, I felt pressure to fit neatly into one category—professional, creative, corporate, author—but I’ve learned that people are far more complex than that. My work, whether in HR or in writing, is rooted in understanding people, their motivations, their challenges, and their potential.
I think what sets me apart is my ability to move comfortably between seemingly different worlds. I can sit in an executive leadership meeting discussing organizational strategy, spend the weekends writing stories for young readers, and sprinkle in some design time for Hey, Handsome. Rather than seeing those pursuits as contradictory, I see them as complementary. Each require empathy, curiosity, communication, and a genuine interest in people.
Ultimately, I’m proud of building a life that reflects who I am, rather than who others expect me to be.

What matters most to you?
My family—both the one I was born into and the one I’ve chosen.
I lost my father suddenly when I was 21 years old. This year marks 19 years since his passing. Grief has a way of permanently changing the way you see the world. It reshapes your priorities, your perspective, and your understanding of what truly matters.
For me, that loss reinforced the importance of the people in my life. Family, friends, partners—the people who show up, stay present, and share this journey alongside us. They mean more to me than ever.
The older I get, the more I realize that life’s greatest treasures aren’t accomplishments or possessions, but the moments we create with the people we love. The conversations, celebrations, traditions, and even the ordinary days together become priceless. Those are the memories that stay with us, and those are the things I value most.
