Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Hewin.
Hi Ian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
People often assume I became an event planner because I love the decor and the stunning venues. While I certainly appreciate both, the truth is much simpler, I genuinely love people.
I’ve always been fascinated by what brings people together. Whether it’s a wedding, a milestone celebration, or a corporate event, there is something special about creating moments that people will talk about long after the last guest leaves.
My journey started with saying “yes” to opportunities, even when I wasn’t entirely sure how I would figure everything out. Over time, those opportunities turned into experience, those experiences turned into confidence, and eventually that confidence became Events by Ian.
Building a business in Jamaica hasn’t always been easy. There have been moments where I’ve questioned my sanity usually around midnight while finalizing seating charts for people who suddenly remembered three extra cousins they absolutely cannot live without inviting. But somehow, I keep coming back because I truly love what I do.
What began as a passion has grown into a luxury wedding and events company that serves clients from all over the world. Today, I have the privilege of helping couples celebrate some of the most important days of their lives, often in some of Jamaica’s most beautiful locations.
What I’m most proud of isn’t necessarily the weddings themselves it’s the trust. Clients invite me into some of the most personal moments of their lives, and that’s something I never take for granted.
At my core, I’m a creative, a problem-solver, and someone who believes luxury is less about how much money you spend and more about how people feel. If guests leave saying, “That felt like them,” then I’ve done my job.
And if I can pull that off while preventing family drama, dodging tropical weather, and answering seventeen versions of “What time should I arrive?” then I consider that a successful week.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? Not even close.
I’ve navigated difficult clients, last-minute changes, tropical weather with a personal vendetta against outdoor weddings, and all the ups and downs that come with building a business from the ground up.
The good news is that every challenge made me better. The version of me running Events by Ian today is far more resilient, creative, and confident because the road wasn’t smooth.

My career in hospitality and events has been built from the ground up, which is something I’m incredibly proud of.
I started as a Front Desk Agent and worked my way up to Front Desk Manager, gaining firsthand experience in guest relations, operations, problem-solving, and leadership. Along the way, I had the opportunity to work closely with nearly every department, giving me a well-rounded understanding of how exceptional guest experiences are created behind the scenes.
Recognizing my passion for creating memorable experiences, the company eventually entrusted me with leading the direction of its events department. That opportunity became the foundation for what would later become Events by Ian.
Today, with more than 10 years of experience in hospitality and events, I’m most proud of the trust I’ve earned from clients and the reputation I’ve built for excellence. Every wedding, event, and milestone celebration represents a family, a story, and a moment that can never be repeated, and I never take that responsibility lightly.
What sets me apart is that I don’t approach events solely from a design perspective I approach them from an experience perspective. My background in hospitality taught me that luxury isn’t just about beautiful décor; it’s about how people feel. Because I’ve worked across multiple departments and understand the full guest journey, I’m able to anticipate needs, solve problems before they arise, and create events that are not only beautiful but seamless, thoughtful, and memorable.
For me, success isn’t measured by how stunning an event looks in photographs. It’s measured by how it felt to the people who experienced it.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the industry becoming more experience-driven than ever before. Couples are moving away from cookie-cutter weddings and investing in celebrations that feel deeply personal and authentic to them.
Technology and AI will continue to streamline planning, but I believe human connection will become even more valuable. People don’t hire planners just for logistics they hire us for creativity, guidance, and peace of mind.
I also see destination weddings, sustainability, and multi-day wedding experiences continuing to grow, especially in places like Jamaica where guests are looking for more than just a wedding—they’re looking for an unforgettable experience.
