Inspiring Conversations with Jeannine De La Torre of Pilates One

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannine De La Torre.

Hi Jeannine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Pilates One started with a dream, a single reformer, and a tiny apartment in Brickell.

In 2007, I wasn’t thinking about opening a studio or building a business. I simply wanted to share a method that had completely changed my life. With one Pilates machine, years of training, and a passion for helping people feel stronger in their bodies, I began teaching clients out of my apartment.

Before long, word spread.

My small apartment became a place where people came not just to exercise, but to feel better. They arrived looking for strength, relief from pain, better posture, confidence, and connection. The demand grew so quickly that I found myself teaching from early morning until late at night, and it became clear that I had outgrown the space.

In 2008, I took a leap of faith and opened the first Pilates One studio in Coconut Grove.

What began as a small neighborhood studio continued to grow alongside an incredible community of clients who trusted me with their health, movement, and wellness journeys. Through the years, Pilates One expanded, evolved, and moved through four different locations, each one bringing me closer to the vision I had imagined from the very beginning.

Today, Pilates One has grown into a thriving studio offering more than 60 classes each week. It is a beautiful, light-filled sanctuary where movement, mindfulness, strength, and community come together.

Looking back, it’s hard to believe that it all started with one reformer in a small apartment.

What I’m most proud of isn’t the growth of the business—it’s the people. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of impacting thousands of lives through movement, wellness, and Pilates. I’ve watched clients recover from injuries, prepare for weddings, move through pregnancies, regain confidence, improve their health, and discover strength they never knew they had.

But the truth is, the impact has gone both ways.

The people who have walked through the doors of Pilates One have been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Many arrived as clients and became lifelong friends, supporters, teachers, and part of our extended Pilates One family. Their trust, encouragement, loyalty, and belief in what we were creating helped shape Pilates One into what it is today.

Every instructor who has taught here, every client who has taken a class, every person who has shared a kind word, referred a friend, celebrated a milestone, or simply continued showing up year after year has left a lasting imprint on this studio. Pilates One is not just a reflection of my vision—it is the collective story of an extraordinary community that has grown together over nearly two decades.

I am deeply grateful for every person who has been part of this journey because they have shaped me just as much as I may have helped shape them.

Nearly twenty years later, I still feel the same excitement every time I walk into the studio.

Pilates One is more than a business to me. It is a reflection of everything I love about movement, healing, connection, and personal growth. It is a dream come true—not only as a Pilates instructor, but as an entrepreneur and as someone who genuinely believes that when we move better, we live better.

I often look around the studio and think about how many lives have passed through these doors—and how many of those lives have touched mine in return. What began as one reformer in a small apartment has become a community, a sanctuary, and a second home for so many, including myself.

For that, I will always be grateful.

Pilates is for everyONE.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any entrepreneur, my journey hasn’t been without challenges.

One of the biggest changes I’ve witnessed over the past two decades has been the rapid growth of the Pilates industry. While I am grateful to see more people discovering the benefits of Pilates, this growth has also created a need for deeper education and mentorship.

When I began my training, becoming a comprehensively trained Pilates instructor was a serious commitment. It often required one to two years of study, observation, practice, and apprenticeship across all of the apparatus. I was also fortunate to complete a two-year master’s program with Lolita San Miguel, making me a second-generation Pilates instructor. Beyond learning exercises, we were expected to understand anatomy, movement mechanics, injuries, contraindications, and how to adapt the work safely and effectively for every body.

As the industry evolved, I began noticing that many newly certified instructors possessed the passion to teach but often lacked the confidence, mentorship, and practical teaching skills that only experience can provide. This inspired me to create Polished Pilates®: The Blueprint Code™, a professional development program designed to bridge the gap between certification and mastery. The program helps instructors develop the skills that are rarely taught in traditional certifications—how to read a room, create seamless transitions, command presence, build client connection, teach with confidence, and truly master the art of teaching.

For me, Polished Pilates® is more than a training program. It is my way of giving back to the profession that has given so much to me and helping elevate the next generation of Pilates instructors.

Along the way, I’ve also learned that there is room for everyone. We are all inspired by one another. We learn from one another. We borrow, adapt, refine, and grow. What matters most is bringing your authentic self to the work.

Today, I focus less on competition and more on contribution. What is meant for you cannot be taken from you. There is enough space for all of us to create, teach, grow, and thrive.

Perhaps that’s one of the greatest lessons Pilates has taught me: stay in your own body, stay in your own lane, and trust your own path.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the past two decades, I have watched Pilates transform from a niche fitness method into one of the most respected forms of movement and wellness worldwide. The industry continues to grow as more people seek sustainable ways to improve strength, mobility, posture, mental well-being, and longevity.

I believe the future of Pilates extends far beyond exercise. As people become increasingly aware of the connection between movement, stress management, and overall health, Pilates is uniquely positioned to meet that need. The demand for thoughtful instruction, personalized experiences, and wellness-focused communities continues to rise.

With this growth also comes a greater responsibility to uphold the integrity of the method. As Pilates becomes more mainstream, there is an increasing need for comprehensively trained and certified instructors who understand not only the exercises, but also anatomy, movement mechanics, safety, modifications, and the art of teaching. While trends and accelerated certification programs continue to emerge, I believe there will always be a place for instructors who are committed to ongoing education, mentorship, and mastery of their craft.

While fitness trends come and go, the principles of Pilates remain timeless. My outlook for the industry is incredibly positive, particularly for studios that prioritize education, authenticity, community, and exceptional client experiences.

At Pilates One, we will continue to evolve with the industry while staying rooted in the principles that have guided us since day one: exceptional teaching, meaningful connection, and the belief that movement has the power to transform lives.
