Life & Work with Kiana “V.” Ware of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana “V.” Ware.

Hi Kiana “V.”, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Self-taught, V. started off painting t-shirts in Atlanta, GA and founded her company in 2008. She has since grown a full-service graphic design firm serving black and brown communities and has reached over 300 original paintings sold and over $500K of art products and services sold.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh of course not. I’ve encountered many different waves of struggles along the way. With obtaining a brick and mortar, I had a landlord back out of a lease after realizing my clientele was predominately black and brown (2024), a building director rope me in for the second lease on the promise renovations would be done within three months – I left after five months of lost profit with no renovation progress (2025), and am just now securing my place operating my first commercial studio. The new challenge isn’t getting in the door, it’s keeping the lights on!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and creative entrepreneur whose work spans fine art, historic murals, digital design, branding, and immersive exhibition development. Through painting, storytelling, and spatial design, I create experiences that invite people to reconnect with curiosity, culture, and their inner child.

My work is rooted in themes of identity, faith, resilience, and transformation. Drawing from my experiences as a Black and Filipino artist raised in the South, I explore the intersections of personal history, collective memory, and contemporary culture. Whether I’m painting a large-scale mural, developing a visual identity, or curating an exhibition, my goal is to create work that resonates emotionally while fostering connection and dialogue.

I am known for blending traditional fine art practices with innovative design thinking, creating projects that extend beyond the canvas into immersive environments and community-centered experiences. My vision is not simply to make art, but to build spaces where creativity becomes accessible, restorative, and transformative.

What I am most proud of is the creation of The WareHouse—a multidisciplinary creative platform designed to unite artists, designers, makers, and storytellers under one roof. It represents my belief that art can be both a personal expression and a catalyst for community impact.

What sets me apart is my ability to bridge multiple disciplines while maintaining a cohesive artistic voice. I approach every project as both an artist and a strategist, combining creativity, technical expertise, and visionary thinking to transform ideas into meaningful experiences.

What were you like growing up?
I was very adept and intuitive as a kid. Curiously galavanting into rooms I had no business in and becoming the entertainment was a common theme of my childhood. My main interests included learning new cuisines, cultures, and creative mediums. I often did puzzles, brain teasers, read books far more advanced than my age, and studied films and martial arts like I was being paid for it.
