Check Out Luli Sulichin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luli Sulichin.

Hi Luli, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and emigrated with my family to Miami when I was 12. I have an interesting mix of a Latin American childhood and very American middle school, high school and college experience. When I was 19 and studying at NYU, I traveled to Argentina to renew my passport and met my husband, Lucas. We’ve been married for 20 years and have 2 teenage daughters. I started working in real estate with my mom straight out of college and my husband and I own a boutique brokerage. Being my own boss allowed me the freedom to both parent how I wanted to, while developing my career as a visual artist. I’m a conceptual impact artist and my work focuses on social impact thematics. I think my degree in marketing hugely influenced my artistic approach in how I engage with the public using large scale installations with a campaign like focus.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think there is certainly truth to the old saying about the road being more important than the destination. Any career in the arts is generally rather far from smooth sailing! I have trouble accepting that artists are often asked to do things without monetary compensation because it’s great ‘exposure’. You wouldn’t ask a dentist to put in a crown in exchange for exposure or a plumber to fix your toilet for exposure, but artists are put in this position all the time! Being a successful business owner in my own right has taken some of the financial pressure off the creative side, but I think that has been the biggest struggle as an artist. However, I have to say that this same challenge has highlighted the fact that money doesn’t necessarily fulfill every aspect of life. My most prized accomplishments, whether it’s becoming a mom, sending my art work to the surface of the moon, or showing my work on the billboards of Times Square in NYC, were not monetary.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a conceptual impact artist. Recognized as the first Argentine-American artist on the Moon, my artwork is part of The Lunaprise Mission Museum’s lunar collection that landed on the surface of the Moon on February 22, 2024. As a conceptual impact artist, I’m known for exploring controversial themes through diverse artistic mediums, and my work has graced the iconic Nasdaq screen and other billboards in Times Square. A global advocate and thought leader I uniquely combine my passion for the visual arts and I’m driven by the deep rooted belief in art for impact. Within a global societal framework, I use my art to pose transversal interrogations, reflecting on moral questions as fictional episodes. I’m ambassador for Visible Women, advisor to the BCIU, founder of Atelier Cultural and I serve on the Arts and Culture board for the City of Aventura.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m an avid reader of PAPER books! I learn best through story telling so the best resource for me is to read fictional stories that highlight deep human truths. I have a Beauty and the Beast style library at home with a rolling ladder, and I always carry a book with me wherever I go. We also travel a lot, I think getting out of your bubble and seeing the world through a different perspective opens up a lot of space, possibilities and opportunities. Lastly, there’s a lot to be said about a well curated Instagram feed!
