Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy K. Molina-Toribio.
Hi Lucy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am the daughter of two hardworking immigrants from Honduras, Neri and Lucia Molina, who embody the American Dream. Their dream was never about material success. It was about creating opportunities for their daughters that they never had themselves. They taught my sisters, Cindy and Tiffany Molina, and me that faith, education, perseverance, and hard work could open doors no matter where you come from.
Looking back, the signs of my future career were always there. While many children were outside playing, I could often be found sketching fashion illustrations, cutting apart fabric, creating makeshift designs, and convincing my sisters to participate in mini fashion shows. Creativity was never just a hobby for me. It was how I expressed myself and how I connected with the world around me. Those early moments sparked a passion that would eventually grow into a lifelong career in design, education, and entrepreneurship.
My parents emphasized the importance of education and instilled in us the belief that knowledge is something no one can ever take away. They raised us to be strong, independent women who lead with integrity, compassion, and determination. Every sacrifice they made was rooted in their desire to give their daughters a better future, and their example continues to inspire me every day. Growing up alongside my sisters, I was fortunate to be surrounded by a family that celebrated hard work, encouraged creativity, and supported one another through every season of life. The values my parents instilled in all three of us became the foundation for the women we are today and continue to guide me both personally and professionally.
Inspired by their sacrifices and unwavering support, I dedicated myself to my studies and worked hard to build a strong foundation for my future. During my university years, I nurtured my passion for creativity while developing a strong understanding of business, a combination that would later become the foundation of my career and entrepreneurial journey.
My professional journey began in fashion design and quickly evolved into fashion show production. It was there that I discovered my passion for creating experiences. I fell in love with the process of taking an idea and transforming it into something people could see, feel, and remember. What started as a love for design soon opened the door to the world of events, hospitality, and experiential design, and I knew I had found my calling.
Over the last fifteen years, I have built a career spanning the event, fashion, hospitality, and education industries. At just twenty three years old, I became a university professor, beginning what would become more than a decade of teaching, mentoring, and helping students build careers in the creative industries.
As my career grew, so did my opportunities. I traveled throughout the United States teaching courses in event design, hospitality, and creative business development. I developed curriculum, launched educational programs, and created specialized training courses for aspiring event professionals. One accomplishment that remains especially meaningful to me was developing Spanish language curriculum and educational programs because I never believed language should be a barrier to opportunity. As the daughter of immigrant parents, that mission was deeply personal. I wanted students to have access to quality education whether they learned in English or Spanish.
Along the way, I was fortunate to contribute to projects that intersected with fashion, television, and media, including opportunities connected to networks such as Univision and BET, as well as events associated with major fashion productions. These experiences broadened my perspective, strengthened my creative skill set, and reinforced my passion for creating memorable experiences that connect people through design and storytelling.
Over the years, I progressed from educator to academic leader, eventually serving as Director of Education for a nationally recognized event design institution. In that role, I helped grow programs, develop curriculum, mentor instructors, launch new initiatives, and expand educational opportunities for students across the country. I also launched and hosted an industry podcast that provided a platform for professionals to share their experiences, insights, and expertise with others entering the field.
While I am proud of the positions I have held and the accomplishments I have achieved, what I value most are the lives I have been fortunate enough to impact along the way. The students who discovered confidence in themselves, the professionals who found new opportunities, and the creatives who realized they could turn their passion into a career are what make me most proud.
Like many entrepreneurs, there came a moment when I realized I had spent years helping build programs, brands, businesses, and opportunities for others. I am grateful for every organization, mentor, colleague, student, client, friend, and family member who has been part of my journey because each experience helped shape who I am today.
In recent years, after experiencing significant personal and professional transitions, including the loss of my father, I was reminded that life is precious and that there is never a perfect time to pursue your dreams. I found myself asking a simple question: If not now, when?
That question became the catalyst for launching LY & Co Events & Design.
The company was inspired not only by my professional experiences, but also by the people who have supported me throughout my journey. My husband, Yamil, has been one of my greatest supporters and believers. During seasons of uncertainty, he encouraged me to trust my abilities, pursue my vision, and take the leap of faith required to build something of my own.
LY & Co represents much more than a business. It represents my husband and me pursuing a dream together and building a legacy that reflects our values, faith, creativity, and commitment to one another. It is a reminder that some of life’s greatest accomplishments are not built alone, but alongside the people who believe in you, encourage you, and walk beside you every step of the way.
Today, I am building a company that reflects everything I have learned throughout my career. LY & Co combines my love of design, education, hospitality, and meaningful human connection. While the company currently focuses on luxury event design and planning throughout South Florida, my vision extends far beyond events. Education has always been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey. Having spent more than a decade teaching, mentoring students, developing curriculum, and serving as Director of Education for a recognized event design institution, I have seen firsthand how transformative education can be. God willing, one day I hope to create an educational platform and design school that helps future creatives develop their talents, build successful careers, and discover their own potential, just as so many mentors and educators helped me discover mine.
When I look back, I do not just see the titles, accomplishments, or milestones. I see two parents who left Honduras with a dream and worked tirelessly to create opportunities for their daughters. I see my sisters, Cindy and Tiffany, who have shared every chapter of this journey with me. I see a husband who encouraged me to believe in myself and pursue a vision that eventually became LY & Co. I see mentors who opened doors, students who inspired me, bosses who believed in me, colleagues who became lifelong friends, clients who trusted me, and countless individuals who helped shape both my personal and professional journey. Every opportunity, relationship, and experience has played a role in bringing me to where I am today, and for that, I am incredibly grateful.
Today, I am proud of what I have accomplished, grateful for the journey that brought me here, and excited to continue building something meaningful that will hopefully inspire others to pursue their own dreams.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it certainly has not been a smooth road, but I have learned that some of life’s greatest growth comes through its most challenging seasons.
Like many entrepreneurs, I have faced both professional and personal obstacles throughout my journey. Building a career in a creative industry requires persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when things do not go according to plan. One thing I have learned is that choosing a creative profession requires a unique kind of resilience. There is a long standing stereotype of the struggling artist, and while that does not define everyone in creative fields, there is some truth to the reality that success rarely follows a straight line. Not every idea becomes a success, not every opportunity materializes, and not every project unfolds the way you envisioned. Creativity requires the courage to continue creating, innovating, and believing in your vision even when the outcome is uncertain.
Throughout my career, there were opportunities that changed unexpectedly, projects that did not unfold as planned, and moments when I had to trust myself enough to keep moving forward despite uncertainty. Those experiences taught me how to adapt, pivot, and remain committed to my goals even when the path ahead was not always clear.
On a personal level, I have also experienced challenges that tested my strength and perspective. One of the most significant was the loss of my father. Losing someone who played such an important role in my life changed me in ways I never anticipated. It was a season of profound grief, reflection, and learning how to move forward while carrying the weight of such a tremendous loss.
As difficult as that experience was, it also became one of the greatest turning points in my life. It reminded me that life is precious, time is not guaranteed, and there is never a perfect moment to pursue the dreams that have been placed on your heart. It challenged me to stop waiting for someday and start building the future I envisioned for myself.
For more than fifteen years, I dedicated my career to helping organizations grow, developing educational programs, mentoring students, teaching future industry professionals, and creating opportunities for others. Those experiences shaped me into the professional I am today, and I am deeply grateful for every chapter of that journey. Through several personal and professional transitions, I realized it was time to step fully into my own vision and build something that reflected my values, creativity, and purpose.
That realization inspired the launch of LY & Co Events & Design.
Looking back, I would not say the challenges defined me, but they certainly shaped me. They strengthened my faith, deepened my appreciation for the people I love, and taught me that resilience is often built during the moments we would never choose for ourselves. Today, I carry those lessons into every aspect of my work. LY & Co is more than a business. It is a reflection of the perseverance, passion, creativity, and gratitude that have guided me throughout my journey.
If my story has taught me anything, it is that even in life’s most difficult seasons, there is still purpose, growth, and the opportunity to create something meaningful.
We’ve been impressed with LY & Co Events & Design, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
LY & Co Events & Design is a luxury event design, planning, and creative direction company serving clients throughout South Florida. While the company itself is a new chapter, it is built upon more than 15 years of experience across the event, fashion, hospitality, and education industries.
At our core, we specialize in transforming ideas into meaningful experiences. Whether it’s a luxury wedding, proposal, social celebration, corporate event, or custom-designed experience, our goal is to create events that are beautiful, intentional, and deeply personal to each client. We believe every event should tell a story and leave a lasting impression long after the celebration ends.
What sets LY & Co apart is the depth of experience behind the brand. Throughout my career, I have worked as an event designer, producer, university professor, curriculum developer, educational leader, and podcast host. I have spent years not only working in the industry but also teaching it, mentoring future professionals, and helping shape educational programs across the country. That unique combination of hands-on experience and industry leadership allows me to approach every project with both creativity and strategy.
At my heart, I am a designer. I love the process of starting with a sketch, a concept, or even a simple conversation and transforming it into something tangible. There is an incredible feeling that comes from seeing an idea that once existed only on paper come to life. Throughout my career, I have developed countless event concepts, and in one recent year alone, I created more than ten original luxury event collections, each with its own story, aesthetic, and creative vision. That ability to dream, design, and create is what continues to inspire me every day.
What I am most proud of is that LY & Co represents the culmination of everything I have learned throughout my journey. For many years, I had the privilege of working alongside established brands, design houses, educational institutions, industry leaders, and some incredibly talented vendors and creative partners who have played a significant role in bringing countless designs and events to life. Those collaborations taught me the value of teamwork, creativity, and the power of a shared vision.
While I am incredibly grateful for those experiences, stepping out to build something of my own was one of the biggest and most rewarding decisions of my career. Today, LY & Co reflects not only my professional expertise and creative perspective, but also the relationships, lessons, and inspiration I have gained from the many remarkable people I have had the opportunity to work alongside throughout the years.
One of the things I love most about this industry is the community. I often refer to many of my vendor partners as my “friendors” because over the years, professional relationships have grown into genuine friendships built on trust, collaboration, and a shared passion for creating memorable experiences. I look forward to continuing to work alongside these talented creatives, supporting one another, and bringing beautiful visions to life together.
More than anything, I want readers to know that LY & Co is a brand built on creativity, hospitality, education, and genuine human connection. We are passionate about creating elevated experiences that feel authentic, thoughtful, and unforgettable. This company is not simply about planning and designing events. It is about creating moments, memories, and experiences that people will carry with them for years to come.
LY & Co is the realization of a dream that has been years in the making. What began as a little girl sketching fashion illustrations, dressing up her sisters, creating mini fashion shows, and imagining beautiful experiences has evolved into a career dedicated to design, education, and experience creation. As I look ahead, I am excited to continue serving clients throughout South Florida, collaborating with an incredible community of creatives, and building a company that reflects not only what I do, but who I am.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was creating my own little fashion shows at home. While many of the neighborhood kids were outside playing, I was usually inside sketching fashion illustrations, cutting fabrics, dressing up my sisters, and transforming our home into a makeshift runway. I was constantly drawing, creating, and dreaming up new ideas.
At the time, I had no idea those moments would eventually shape my future career. Looking back, I realize creativity was never just something I enjoyed. It was part of who I was. I was a little girl with a sketchbook, a big imagination, and an endless desire to bring ideas to life.
What makes this memory so special is that it reminds me how often our passions reveal themselves long before we understand where they are leading us. Those childhood fashion shows sparked a creative journey that would eventually lead me into fashion, events, education, and entrepreneurship. In many ways, the work I do today is simply a grown up version of the little girl who loved creating something from nothing and sharing it with others.
