Hidden Gems: Meet Vincent Berillo of RAYS BARBERSHOP LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Berillo.

Vincent, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey in the barbering industry began over 30 years ago in 1994. What started as a curiosity with a pair of clippers quickly became a lifelong passion and purpose. Throughout my career, I have grown from apprentice to licensed barber, instructor, shop owner, educator, judge, speaker, and industry advocate.

Along the way, I have had the opportunity to teach future professionals, mentor barbers, speak on educational stages across the country, and collaborate with some of the most respected brands and leaders in our industry. My mission has always been bigger than cutting hair. I believe barbering is about changing lives, building confidence, creating opportunities, and strengthening communities.

Today, I own and operate Ray’s Barbershop LLC in Hialeah, Florida, a barbershop with roots dating back to 1955. I continue to serve clients behind the chair while also dedicating my time to education, leadership development, and industry advancement. Through initiatives such as “The Leader Behind the Chair” and “One Industry, One Love,” I encourage barbers to elevate their craft, master their profession, and recognize the impact they can have on the people they serve.

One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is using my platform to advocate for inclusion and accessibility within our industry, helping promote sensory-safe barbering experiences for individuals with autism and sensory sensitivities.

After more than three decades in this profession, I remain committed to learning, teaching, and giving back. My goal is not only to leave a legacy through my work, but to help create a stronger future for the barbering industry and the professionals who dedicate their lives to it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has definitely not been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges are what shaped me into the professional and leader I am today.

Like many people in the barbering industry, I started with limited resources and had to earn every opportunity through hard work, consistency, and perseverance. Building a career behind the chair is one thing; building a reputation beyond the chair is another. Throughout my career, I faced financial challenges, industry changes, competition, self-doubt, and moments where I had to reinvent myself to continue growing.

One of the biggest challenges was learning that technical skill alone is not enough. To truly succeed, I had to develop leadership skills, communication skills, business knowledge, and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing industry. There were times when opportunities didn’t work out as planned, partnerships changed, and doors closed unexpectedly. However, each setback taught me valuable lessons and ultimately led to new opportunities.

Another challenge has been balancing multiple roles as a barber, educator, mentor, business owner, speaker, and advocate. Each role requires time, energy, and commitment, but they all share the same purpose: serving others and helping elevate our profession.

Perhaps the greatest lesson I’ve learned is that growth often comes through discomfort. Every obstacle forced me to improve, think differently, and continue moving forward. Today, I don’t view challenges as roadblocks—I view them as part of the process. They have strengthened my character, deepened my purpose, and reinforced my commitment to helping others succeed.

After more than 30 years in the industry, I continue to embrace new challenges because I know they are often the gateway to the next level of growth and impact. 💈

We’ve been impressed with RAYS BARBERSHOP LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
RAY’S BARBERSHOP LLC is more than a barbershop—it is a legacy, a community resource, and a platform for education and leadership within the barbering profession. Located in Hialeah, Florida, our roots trace back to 1955, and today we continue that tradition while embracing innovation and industry advancement.

With more than 30 years of experience, I have evolved from apprentice to Master Barber, educator, speaker, judge, shop owner, and industry advocate. While we take pride in delivering exceptional grooming services, our mission extends far beyond haircuts. We believe barbering has the power to build confidence, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for personal growth.

What sets us apart is our commitment to education, inclusion, and leadership. In addition to serving clients behind the chair, we actively participate in industry events, educational programs, community outreach initiatives, and professional development opportunities. We are passionate about helping elevate the barbering profession and encouraging barbers to view themselves as leaders, entrepreneurs, and agents of positive change.

Our specialties include modern and traditional barbering, precision fades, beard grooming, hair replacement solutions, scalp micropigmentation (SMP), and personalized client care. We are also proud advocates for sensory-aware barbering practices that help create comfortable experiences for individuals with sensory sensitivities and unique needs.

Perhaps what we are most proud of is the impact we have made beyond our walls. Through mentorship, education, volunteer work, and industry leadership, we strive to leave the profession stronger than we found it.

Our philosophy is simple: Elevate our craft, master our profession, and dignify our industry. Every client who walks through our doors becomes part of that mission.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I don’t view risk as something to be feared. I view it as an opportunity to grow. Throughout my career, some of the greatest opportunities I’ve experienced came from decisions that others considered risky.

One of the biggest risks I took was choosing to expand beyond the barber chair. Many professionals become comfortable staying within their daily routine, but I wanted to explore education, public speaking, mentorship, business ownership, and industry leadership. There was no guarantee those opportunities would succeed, but I believed growth required stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Opening and operating a business is itself a risk. Investing time, money, and energy into a vision without knowing the outcome requires faith, discipline, and perseverance. Throughout my journey, I have also taken risks by traveling to teach, speaking on stages, building relationships with industry leaders, creating educational content, and advocating for causes I believe can improve our profession.

At the same time, I don’t believe in reckless risk-taking. I believe in calculated risk. I try to evaluate opportunities, understand potential challenges, prepare as much as possible, and then trust myself enough to move forward. The greatest risk, in my opinion, is allowing fear to prevent growth.

Many of the accomplishments I am most proud of today came from moments when I could have chosen comfort but instead chose courage. Whether it was becoming an educator, opening my business, speaking in front of audiences, or championing new ideas within the industry, each step required faith in a vision that did not yet exist.

My philosophy is simple: growth lives on the other side of uncertainty. If you believe in your purpose, prepare yourself, and remain willing to learn, taking calculated risks can become one of the most powerful tools for personal and professional success.

After more than 30 years in the barbering profession, I have learned that every new level requires a new level of courage. 💈🚀
