Meet Melissa Lovio Sanchez of Behavior Magic Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Lovio Sanchez.

Hi Melissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I had been working at behavior clinics and agencies for years and was tired of the grunt work (insurance authorizations, meeting billable hours, etc) getting in the way of the actual important work: providing quality services to these children and their families. I decided to do something that I had not seen before: create a behavior analytic private practice where I, the BCBA, provided 1:1 services for the child and consistent parent training for families. It was scary at first, but my business flourished in ways I could never imagine. As my business grew, I was able to form relationships with local schools, and began incorporating school consultations to help train staff on basic behavioral interventions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been. There wasn’t really a blueprint to follow because this model is relatively uncommon in our field. I’ve had to navigate clinical decisions, business operations, parent relationships, scheduling, marketing, and growth largely through trial, reflection, and continuous improvement.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Behavior Magic Therapy?
I am the founder and behavior analyst at Behavior Magic Therapy, which is a behavior analytic private practice. What sets us apart is that all ABA services are delivered by a BCBA with over 10 years of experience in behavior analysis working with children with ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities and other developmental delays. I believe in quality over quantity, and that children do not need 40 hours of therapy a week to reach their goals. What they need is the attention they deserve, individualized programming, heavy school and parent involvement and training and a lot of love.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’ve lived in Miami my entire life and it still surprises me. I love the weather, the beaches and our growing love for the arts. What bothers me the most is the traffic and the rigid thinking that seems to be unique to Miami culture.
