Hidden Gems: Meet Janet Baldwin of Maui Alpaca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Baldwin.

Hi Janet, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Maui Alpaca with three alpacas to make my retreat business “ag-friendly,” but quickly fell in love with the animal’s fiber.
The business expanded organically from there into tours, trekking, and picnics with the Alpacas and Angora bunnies.
We developed an educational, hands-on experience that has been very popular with guests and locals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a fairly smooth road, although COVID, Maui fires, and major flooding have all been a part of the journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Maui Alpaca. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have a natural knack for starting successful businesses.
From an ATV tours company, a zipline, and a Retreat center.

Maui Alpacaa came out of left field as a need to make our 8-acre property legal.

The success has been building an amazing team that stays. We love what we do, and that is the secret.

We kept developing new and exciting products and events that help keep us fresh and engaged.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
No risk, no gain! All business is an investment in time and money.

It’s important to have a financial safety net for those troubled times, which always come.
