Meet Tara Benmeleh of Espiritutara in Design District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Benmeleh.

Tara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my journey by working in the fashion industry in retail and fashion design for 15 years before eventually starting my own jewelry line. I had always wanted to create this, and after a trip, Machu Picchu were I bought handmade beads I was able to mix them back home with protective onyx to make bracelets. This is how Espiritutara was born.

After that, I started exploring the spiritual side of jewelry making with stones. I was able to create jewelry that had healing properties for my clients and through this exploration of spirituality (meditation, dreams, and other forms of inspiration) all my symbols came to me.

Moving forward from just beads, we moved onto metals with the symbols. This is where many of our best selling pieces, like the arrow cuff were born. I’ve been fortunate enough to grow my brand by selling my line in the best boutiques in Miami. Not only are they stores I adore, but most of them are run by my friends and mentors. These people have been instrumental in the growing of my brand by guiding and motivating me to continue, even after the birth of my son.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the biggest challenge has been production in Miami. I’ve struggled to keep the prices down and many times the timelines are long. However, we’ve been able to make most of our pieces here in Miami.

I’m also a full-time mom, so finding the time to work continues to be a struggle. My clients and my stores are a continuing guidance and help in keeping me going.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Espiritutara – what should we know?
With jewelry at its core, espiritútara seeks to empower with beautiful pieces that possess elements of protection and positivity. Inspired by travel, art, and the pursuit of magic, the line is made of intentional stones and handmade elements that are created for those searching for both design and the manifestation of light.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We focus a lot on spirituality through our brand, but in a really approachable way. This means that anyone can connect to our pieces and feel the energy of the brand.

Espiritutara also collaborates with luxury membership programs and museums to create spiritual creative workshops.
