Meet Thabatha A Soriano of Behavioral Neurodiversity Specialists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thabatha A Soriano.

Hi Thabatha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and the founder of Behavioral Neurodiversity Specialists, an applied behavior analysis company based in Miami that works with children and families in the neurodiverse community. What initially drew me to applied behavior analysis was how fascinating I found human behavior and development. I became deeply interested in the way small interventions, structure, and consistency could completely change a human’s ability to communicate, regulate, learn, and connect with the world around them. At the same time, I’ve always had a strong interest in philanthropy and social impact, so neurodiversity became a space where I felt I could combine both.

Beyond the clinical side, one of the things that matters most to me is creating environments where children can build from their strengths, so we focus heavily on early intervention because those early years are so important. A lot of our work centers around communication, self-regulation, independence, and structure. We also work with children in foster care and collaborate with hospitals and community organizations whenever possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has probably been learning how to balance entrepreneurship in healthcare. Building a company like this comes with constant changes and a level of responsibility that can feel overwhelming at times. There’s always pressure to improve systems, maintain quality, and continue showing up consistently for the children, families and staff who trust you.

Coming to the U.S. from Venezuela as a teenager also shaped a lot of my mindset early on. I became independent at a young age, and I think that experience taught me resilience, responsibility and how to keep moving forward. Building something from the ground up, especially in this field, has required both structure and a deep level of human connection. When I look back, it’s also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Behavioral Neurodiversity Specialists?
Behavioral Neurodiversity Specialists is a Miami-based applied behavior analysis company that works with neurodiverse children and their families. We specialize in autism, ADHD, developmental delays, and related needs. A large part of our work involves building communication, attention, self-regulation and behavioral skills that support independence in daily life. What has always mattered to me is creating environments where children are not reduced to only deficits and diagnoses. Over time, I’ve become very involved in community initiatives, sensory-friendly experiences, and school collaborations that allow me to connect with families and professionals outside the traditional clinical setting.

One of the things I’m most proud of brand-wise is that we’ve been able to create something that feels much more human and development-focused than the more traditional perception people sometimes have of ABA. I’ve always been interested in the intersection between behavior and cognition which is what inspired the development of the Cognitive Constellation Map. The vision behind it is to create a more engaging way to explore these concepts through interactive materials and practical applications.

What drives me is making these concepts more mainstream and easier to connect with. A lot of the skills we work on benefit not only neurodiverse children but children in general. I think we’re moving toward a future where emotional regulation, and cognitive skill-building become a much bigger part of how we think about education and childhood as a whole.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned? If I had to narrow it down, I would say that nothing really unfolds the way you expect it to and that’s part of the process. I’ve learned that having purpose beyond yourself becomes a driving force. Creative outlets and human connection are important. And lately, I’ve come to appreciate self-regulation on a much deeper level.
