Daily Inspiration: Meet Rachel Samson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Samson.

Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m entering my 10th year as a content creator. Ironically 10 years ago I had never heard of that term, back then we were “bloggers” – even if we didn’t have a blog! There’s really been such a huge evolution of what it means to be a creator or influencer. I think the biggest change came around 2020 with the rise of video and when it became much more widely accepted that this might be a way of life. Although I’ve learned so much over the years and had to pivot many times, I think I have always stayed true to what my page has been about, and have managed to continue to follow my passion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is a tough job, don’t get me wrong I thoroughly love working for myself and wouldn’t trade it for anything. But after working 13 years in a corporate environment, those were really the days, when I would shut my laptop at 5 PM and only work 40 hours in a week. As a creator, there are months when work is abundant, and there are months where it’s a scarcity. You kind of have to roll with the punches, and for sure balance your lifestyle for the ebbs and flows.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve always called what I do “food entertainment.” I love to get behind the scenes, get into the kitchen and give people a peek at how something is made. This might not be the fanciest restaurant, in fact it might be the strangest thing you’ve seen this week. But I strive to find things that are a little different, a little shocking, totally indulgent and often whimsical. I think this sets me apart, especially since I find so many of these foods while traveling, that helped me to lean into travel as a secondary focus which isn’t something everybody else was doing.

Any big plans?
I’ve been splitting my time between Miami and Chicago lately. Chicago is where I grew up and it has felt nice to check out food in a new city with so much out there for me to discover. I love the contrast between the two cities, and have had fun exploring the differences in cuisine between them. Hoping to spend a good amount of time traveling this summer, rounding out my time between my home cities, and of course NYC, Vegas and Orlando which are all favorites of mine.
