Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa McClain.
Hi Vanessa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was just 18, life’s circumstances led me to leave home earlier than expected. I always had a special love for the beauty industry, with a musical theater background in high school, I was always in charge of Hair and Makeup for everyone on set. This is where my love for the world of glam really began. I moved to New York for a couple of years and began my journey working free gigs doing hair and makeup for shows. I moved back to Miami and started at the bottom, assisting some of the biggest names in South Miami and Coral Gables. The pressure was immense, arriving before they did and leaving long after they were gone. Those early days were tough: lonely nights, working for tips, living off Hot Pockets and pizza slices just to get through the week. But those struggles fueled my passion. Over 14 years, I’ve evolved into the stylist I am today combining my love for makeup, color, and nurturing healthy strands. Now, I offer more than just a service—I create a zen, personalized experience for every client who sits in my chair. I have built a career centered around what I love most: creating an environment where every client feels cared for, confident, and truly seen. Now that I’ve reached this goal, my next aspiration is to give back to the industry that shaped me. I want to mentor and teach the next generation of stylists—showing them how to assist with intention, refine their craft, and ultimately find their own unique path—just as I did.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Far from a smooth road, living on my own was difficult I rented rooms in apartments and was barely making ends meet. I was also young and wanted to enjoy life; it was hard juggling a social life and my priorities as a young artist.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At VWILLGLAMYOU, I specialize in luxury hair color with a strong focus on healthy hair and creating results that are both beautiful and sustainable. While I love all aspects of beauty, my passion lies in customized color transformations, dimensional brunettes, blondes, and low-maintenance color that complements each client’s lifestyle, features, and long-term hair goals. I believe that beautiful hair should never come at the expense of its integrity, so every service is approached with intention, education, and a personalized plan.
What I’m most proud of is the experience I’ve created for my clients. Over the past 14 years, I’ve worked hard to build more than just a hair appointment—I’ve created a space where clients can slow down, feel cared for, and truly enjoy the process. In a world that often feels rushed, I wanted VWILLGLAMYOU to be a place that feels welcoming, calming, and personal.
What sets me apart is the level of thought and connection that goes into every appointment. I believe the consultation is the luxury. Before mixing a color formula or picking up a brush, I take the time to understand my clients’ goals, lifestyle, maintenance preferences, and hair history. That intentional approach allows me to create results that not only look beautiful when my clients leave the salon, but continue to work for them long after.
I am also selective about the services and techniques I offer. As a stylist, I’ve learned that excellence comes from focusing on what you truly love and continuously refining those skills. Rather than trying to do everything, I’ve built my business around the services I am most passionate about and where I know I can deliver exceptional results.
At the heart of VWILLGLAMYOU is a simple philosophy: healthy hair, beautiful color, genuine connection, and an experience that makes every client feel confident, comfortable, and seen. That commitment is what has allowed me to build lasting relationships with my guests and what continues to inspire me every day behind the chair.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
To be honest, I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in blessings, faith, hard work, and perseverance. Throughout my life and career, I’ve learned that success isn’t something that simply happens to you…it’s something you build through consistency, sacrifice, and the willingness to keep going even when things are difficult.
There have been many moments in my journey where things didn’t go according to plan, but looking back, I can see how those challenges were shaping me for what was ahead. I truly believe I’ve been blessed with opportunities, mentors, loyal clients, and the ability to do what I love every day. At the same time, I know those blessings had to be met with hard work, dedication, and a commitment to continuous growth.
Building VWILLGLAMYOU has required countless hours, resilience, and trust in the process.
