Today we’d like to introduce you to John Courtemanche.
Hi John, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Throughout my life, I have always been an artist. I possessed a remarkable talent for my age, which was often acknowledged by others. However, I discontinued drawing during my teenage years and embraced the carefree nature of that period.
The arrival of COVID-19 brought a sudden change in my life. I randomly picked up anime and was immediately captivated by the characters. This newfound inspiration led me to re-draw them, and I have since dedicated myself to making this my full-time passion and profession.
Currently, I am working on creating a portfolio that showcases my artistic abilities. I am fortunate to have received a gig from Adam Lawson, a writer for a story I am currently working on. This recognition has solidified my dream of pursuing a career in the art world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my journey as an artist, I have consistently encountered challenges that have made me contemplate quitting. However, I firmly believe that this tendency will persist throughout my career. Nevertheless, I am reminded of my aspirations and the importance of proving myself. My ambition to conquer the global art scene and establish my own legacy serves as a constant source of motivation and discipline. NEVER QUIT.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My expertise lies in the creation of black and white comic books. Over the past few years, I have dedicated myself to expanding my technical proficiency and professional acumen within the comic book industry. I am particularly proud of completing my education at the University of Hartford and securing stable employment in the field of illustration. What distinguishes me from others is my commitment to kindness. While I aspire to produce exceptional art, I believe that true success lies in the positive impact I can have on others through my work.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice is to stay true to who you are. Don’t let others push their agendas onto you. You are special because you are you, not someone else.
