Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Wood.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for pet photography began with a deep love for animals and a lifelong passion for photography. By blending these two, Pawz Photo Studio was born — a South Florida-based pet photography business dedicated to capturing the heart and soul of your furry companions.
At Pawz Photo Studio, I specialize in creating professional pet portraits that showcase the unique, playful, and loving personalities of each animal. Whether it’s a goofy grin, soulful eyes, or a wagging tail, my goal is to preserve those special moments through high-quality images that become treasured keepsakes for years to come.
In addition to private pet photography sessions, I proudly volunteer my time with local animal rescues, photographing adoptable dogs to help them find their forever homes. Many of these lovable pups are featured on our Instagram and Facebook, so be sure to follow along and maybe even meet your new best friend! 🐶❤️
To make it even better, we are located in Miramar, FL which is pretty convenient if you are coming from both Miami or Fort Lauderdale as we are right in the middle! 😎
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most businesses, there are challenges along the way, especially in the beginning. One of the biggest struggles was building consistency while learning how to manage growth, customer expectations, and the day-to-day responsibilities of running a business. There are also moments where I have to deal with the “impostor syndrome” and comparing myself to others. I do believe every obstacle becomes a learning experience that helps me improve both personally and professionally so I always try to find the positive side of everything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a dog photographer focused on creating emotional and personality driven portraits that help humans create a beautiful memory of their pets that will be forever remembered, and loved. A big part of my work involves photographing rescue and shelter dogs in a way that captures who they truly are, not just what they look like. I specialize in natural, expressive images that tell a story and help people connect emotionally with the animal behind the photo.
What I’m most proud of is using photography as a tool to help dogs find homes and bring more visibility to rescue work. Seeing one of my photos help a dog get adopted is the most rewarding part of what I do.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am a truly believer that the best things in life are outside your comfort zone.
Leaving my 9–5 to pursue photography full time was the biggest risk I’ve taken in my business. It meant walking away from stability, predictable income, and the safety net of a traditional job to fully bet on myself and the work I believed in. I face a lot of unknowns on a daily , especially building a career in such a small field, but I knew I wanted to create something meaningful and within my purpose.
