Meet Monique Joseph of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Joseph.

Hi Monique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi…..I am Monique Joseph or some people in the creative world may know me as Miss Moezartt. I’m a multi-faceted creative whose talents span across painting, graphic design, social media marketing, hairstyling, and tattoo artistry. Creativity has always been second nature to me — something I’ve carried since childhood. I always knew I was destined to create on a larger scale and leave my mark through art in every form possible.

At a young age, my artwork was selected by my elementary school art teacher to be displayed at the Orlando Museum of Art in downtown Orlando, where thousands of people were able to experience my work. That moment planted the seed for everything I would grow into later in life. Fast forward to today, my artwork has now been featured in multiple fine art exhibitions, with even more opportunities and collections on the horizon. My work is deeply inspired by emotion, self-expression, Black culture, healing, nostalgia, femininity, nature, and bold storytelling through color and texture.

Beyond traditional art, I taught myself graphic design and digital branding completely through hands-on experience, curiosity, and entrepreneurship. Through launching multiple creative businesses and building my own brands from the ground up, I learned how to create visuals that not only look good but connect with people emotionally and strategically. Over time, I developed skills in content creation, social media marketing, brand identity design, advertising, and creative direction. Whether it’s designing graphics, creating campaigns, curating aesthetics, or building engaging social media content, I’ve always found ways to merge creativity with business.

After graduating from Florida International University with a degree in Marketing, I continued expanding my creative journey instead of limiting myself to one lane. I decided to pursue tattooing because I saw it as another powerful art form — one that allows people to physically carry meaningful art with them forever. Today, I’m a licensed tattoo artist with over a year of experience and 50+ tattoos completed, specializing in creating pieces that feel personal, expressive, and intentional.

In addition to tattooing and visual art, I’ve also worked within beauty and entertainment spaces as a hairstylist, helping clients and creatives feel confident through self-expression. My experiences across different creative industries have allowed me to become extremely adaptable, visionary, and culturally aware in the way I create and connect with people.

At the core of everything I do is the desire to inspire, build community, and create experiences that people remember. I never want to be boxed into one title because my creativity was never meant to exist in only one form. Whether I’m painting a canvas, designing a campaign, tattooing skin, styling hair, or creating content, every piece of my work reflects passion, intention, and the belief that art has the power to move people.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No….. not at all honestly. The creative life definitely always comes with up and downs but preservance is KEY! The struggles for be have mainly been more of an internal battle. Second guessing if the art is good enough or just being too harsh on myself. Not seeing the work for what it is and being overly critical of myself to the point where I just stop or slow down. I am VERY. results driven and when the results aren’t there it sometimes punts a stint in my momentum. I am stilling learning that even when no one is watching or cheering me on that I still have to be my own #1 cheerleader and promoter. Pushing through the times when business is slow only makes me a stronger, smarter, and more resilient creative!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My art style is bold, expressive, colorful, and emotionally driven…….often blending abstract elements, nostalgia, femininity, nature, and cultural influence into one visual experience. Some of my favorite inspirations are Hello Kitty, Lisa Frank, Alien creatures, and Kawaii culture. A lot of my work is centered around emotion, healing, self-expression, and creating pieces that feel both personal and empowering.

I create art that’s meant to stand out and spark feeling. Whether it’s through vibrant colors, layered textures, dreamy energy, or edgy details, I want my work to feel immersive and meaningful rather than just decorative. I’m especially passionate about creating pieces that resonate with Black women and people who see art as a reflection of identity, growth, and individuality.

What sets me apart is my ability to translate emotion and storytelling across different creative mediums while still maintaining a strong, recognizable visual style.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was very energetic and happy child. I used to create couch forts and play under them with my barbies. I also played a lot of video games….. Wii Sports, Just Dance, and especially Minecraft. I loved getting to create my own world and my own characters just like how I do with my art now! Since a kid I’ve always been curious about a lot of things. Asking a lot of questions about the world, people, and just random things. I played outside a lot as well, just running around the yard doing cartwheels and being a kid. Life was pretty chill back then. I still see a lot of similarities with who I am now. I love nature, dancing to music, and creating my world specifically just for me.
