Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Surrena.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Michelle, (Michelle Lelia Makeup)
This is my story, I went to Palm Beach State College for skin care.
Then I had went to Palm Beach Nail School for nails.
Then I had went to Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry for makeup and fell in love with makeup. I began working makeup for free for photo-shoots, runway shows, etc to build my portfolio to show my work!
Eventually I somehow I became a production makeup artist, working on tv & film sets, commercials, working with multiple celebrities and production companies I fell in love with it. I love how you can transform someone from a before and after from very natural makeup to very glam makeup. Make up school, I also had learned some special effects such as bruising, cuts, bleeding etc.
I love makeup, making my clients happy and seeing the end result.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, getting to where I am today.
I spent lot’s of days working for free and trying to get my name out there so people know who I am and see my work. I had to build a portfolio of my makeup to show to clients, production companies, etc.
There will always be struggles with anything in life no matter what it is.
You’re going to have good days and bad days we just have to try to learn from them.
It took me a long time to get where I’m today, especially in the production business it is a lot of networking, networking, networking!
I always have to keep up with current beauty trends.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a celebrity makeup artist.
I work on tv and film production jobs, I do event makeup, weddings, etc.
I am most proud of where I am today &
The jobs I have worked on and the people that I have met in the business.
What sets me apart from others is that I take pride and what I do.
I have to make sure that the client is happy with the end result.
That’s what makes me happy.
I am also unique and different.
So I want to stand out than others.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk taking…
Sometimes in this occupation as a makeup artist, you have to take risks.
Any job you have to handle risk taking..
Sometimes you have to take risks to see how the outcome is going to turn out, it can turn out good or can turn out bad
You never know until you try.
