Conversations with Angelee Powell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelee Powell.

Hi Angelee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Angelee Powell Certified phlebotomist, beauty therapist, mesotherapist and certified human resources executive (hons) and also owner of essentialsbyangel. My business started from frustration with clothing that could not fit my body type. I came to the realization that alot of other woman had similar problems with clothing like I did. I then started a clothing line called Angelee Powell fashion . As the brand grew I started to expand in jewelry, skincare, weddings and decor which I had to change the name to essentialsbyangel where all services are under one umbrella.

This is a mobile service which caters to all individuals both male and female young and old. I have been featured in black entrepreneurs magazine, cvm television and hosted on radio stations and YouTube podcast.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At first it was very challenging because I didn’t know how to sew At first I had to teach myself and Google and YouTube styles and techniques to build my brand .

Also customers where not familiar with me as yet so I had to do alot of advertising and promotion to get my name out there

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently i am and human Resources Executive (hons) i am also a certified phlebotomist and beauty therapist and mesotherapist. Have an Asc degree in hospitality and tourism management major travel amd accommodation.
I am very proud of all my accolades as I ahve worked very hard to reach where I am at.

What sets me apart is that I use my professional field in the medical industry to integrate with my business allowing me to diagnose individuals according to their skin and hair type.

This gives me a leverage over the market cause i can create and recommend products that best suit a person skin and body type

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is very necessary especially as a business owner. This can either make or break your business. You have to know your audience and market that you are targeting.

Study the industry trends and see what people are in and build or recreate your business accordingly.

I started out with only designing clothing but as the market grew I had to grow along with it so I had ro recreate my business by adding more products and services but still keeping the clothing and other stuff that I enjoy doing
