Hi Ashley , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career begin once I received Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Management from Culinary School. After graduating, I worked in several local restaurants before branching off on my own as a Private Chef. In the beginning, I was mostly working cooking full time for families; planning and preparing their weekly meals. I quickly evolved into cooking for tourists visiting our town to celebrate occasions such as birthdays, anniversary, bachelorette parties, and more. I love cooking meals for these celebratory times and becoming a part of the memories that my clients are making. There is so much fulfillment in the work that I do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While my work is fulfilling, the biggest challenge I face is the inconsistency of the work. The town I live in has slow seasons and so there is a lot planning and preparation to figure out how to manage finances throughout the year.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One aspect of my job that I love is that I have the special ability to cook all kinds of varying cuisines and menus. When you cook in a restaurant the dishes can begin to feel monotonous but when you are a private chef, clients request assorted cuisines, preparations, and service styles. Each client I cook for completes a Questionnaire that outlines exactly what they want for their meal and this means that each menu is custom tailored to fit their exact needs and desires. Cooking in this way constantly forces me to continue learning and expanding my skills to ensure that each meal is perfect.
