Inspiring Conversations with Kristina Kostenko of In Unison Wedding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Kostenko.

Hi Kristina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working in weddings back in 2014 in Russia. That’s when I created my agency, In Unison Wedding, and I still work under this name today. From the very beginning, I was focused on creating weddings that feel personal, emotional, and really true to each couple.

In 2015, I moved to New York and started working with elopements, intimate weddings, and destination weddings for couples who dreamed of getting married in NYC. Most of them wanted that romantic, cinematic New York feeling and I loved turning that vision into reality.

I worked in New York for about six years, and during that time I built really close relationships with my couples. Many of them I’m still in touch with today, which is something I really value.

Then I moved to Miami, and for the past four years I’ve been focusing on small weddings, usually up to 45 guests, mostly beach ceremonies. I also work as a wedding officiant, which lets me create and lead very personal ceremonies for each couple.

For me, every wedding is something very meaningful. It’s not just an event, it’s a very personal story, and I always feel grateful to be part of it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it was a smooth road. There were definitely moments when I lost motivation or questioned myself, especially when things didn’t work out the way I planned, and even more during COVID, when there were very few inquiries and everything felt uncertain.

At one point, I even thought about changing my career direction. But every time, I came back to weddings. For me, weddings are much more than just an event or a celebration. It feels deeper and more meaningful – like being part of something really important, where two family lines come together.

This is the space where I truly feel like I belong. I feel completely in my element, and no other type of work or event brings me the same level of fulfillment as creating weddings.

We’ve been impressed with In Unison Wedding , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in small weddings, elopements, and destination weddings, mainly in Miami and New York City.

I offer full wedding planning, day-of coordination, and I also work as a wedding officiant, which allows me to create and lead very personal ceremonies for my couples. In addition to that, I provide a wedding dress steaming service, which is a really helpful detail for brides, especially on the wedding day when everything needs to look perfect.

On top of weddings, I also organize proposals. I love that part of the journey because it allows me to be with couples from the very beginning from the “yes” moment all the way to the wedding day and “I do.” It feels very special to support them through the whole story, not just one event.

So overall, I work both with the engagement and wedding experience, helping create meaningful, emotional, and very personal celebrations.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I think risk is just a natural part of the wedding industry. It’s not a very predictable business there are always things you can’t control, like weather, timing, personal situations, or even global events like COVID.

For me, it’s really about being flexible and staying calm when things change. You learn to adapt quickly and find solutions in real time.

But I don’t see risk as something negative. I actually think it helps you grow. Every unexpected situation makes you more experienced and stronger in what you do.

So overall, I’d say this industry requires resilience, but if you truly love it, it feels more like part of the journey than a risk.
