Hidden Gems: Meet Sofia Cervantes of Aprica Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Cervantes.

Hi Sofia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a holistic healer integrating a range of practices to support transformation of mind, body, and spirit. Originally from the West Coast, I’ve spent years studying healing modalities around the world. My journey has taken me from Indonesia and Vietnam, where I trained in vinyasa, hatha, and ashtanga yoga, to the Ecuadorian cloud forest, where I studied Reiki, sound healing, and hypnotherapy. This path has been guided by a deep commitment to wellness, personal transformation, and living an abundant life.

Like many who resonate with the “wounded healer” archetype, my work is rooted in personal experience. I have navigated periods of severe anxiety and depression, and later became a high-performance athlete, competing in the Trail Running World Championships in Austria in 2019. These experiences have given me a grounded understanding of both deep struggle and peak performance. Professionally, I’ve worked alongside neuroscientists and health experts to develop brain health protocols at companies like Apollo Neuro and BRAIN.ONE. In parallel, I’ve explored alternative approaches to mental health through psychedelics and plant medicine, expanding my perspective on healing.

Although I’ve worked with energy and herbal practices for many years, I fully committed to this path more recently. After a decade in the tech industry, I experienced significant nervous system dysregulation, which led me to seek deeper healing. My journey included therapeutic work with psilocybin and ketamine, both of which catalyzed meaningful transformation. This inspired me to further my explorations in Guatemala, where I studied mushroom cultivation and the science of entheogenic compounds. When I returned to the US, I continued my education through herbalism programs in Virginia.

Last year, I stepped away from tech to focus entirely on healing and integration. I traveled to Bali to complete my yoga teacher training at House of Om. Following a scooter accident that brought me back to the US for physical recovery, I attended a 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreat in Kelseyville, California—an experience that deepened my clarity and commitment to this work. I then continued my training in Mindo, Ecuador, where I studied Reiki, hypnotherapy, breathwork, sound healing, and facilitation practices involving cacao and psilocybin.

Today, I support clients through a range of modalities, including energy work, herbal guidance, nervous system regulation, and movement-based practices. Whether someone is seeking emotional balance, physical healing, or deeper self-connection, I aim to provide grounded, compassionate support as they navigate their own path.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle has been visibility. Getting myself out there and getting my offering in front of the right people is the largest challenge I’ve encountered. I’m not a marketer but when you run your own business, you have to be. Figuring out how to play all the roles while putting most of my energy where it’s needed most– in helping people heal– has been a major learning experience for me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Aprica Healing?
Most people find me when there’s a specific challenge they’re facing in life. Whether that be anxiety and depression, heartbreak and relationship hurdles, or difficulty with the aging process, there are many ways in which I help people navigate uncertainty and health concerns.

Before clients come in for a session, they’ll complete an intake form asking for details about what they’re hoping to achieve, the healing modalities they’ve worked with in the past, and the issues they’re currently facing. A typical session involves breathwork, meditation, and sound healing, in addition to the Reiki healing.

Few people are very familiar with Reiki and often think it’s a form of massage so I frequently have to explain the mechanics. Reiki is a Japanese energy-healing practice that promotes relaxation, balance, and the body’s natural ability to heal. Like acupuncture and cupping, Reiki works with the body’s energetic systems to restore balance disrupted by stress, injury, or illness. It treats the whole person, encouraging a state of harmony and optimal health. Each experience is unique, as the energy intuitively flows to where it is needed most. There is light touch and massage involved in the work I do but the primary healing force is the channel of energy through the practitioner’s hands and the client’s chakras (energy centers in the body).

After a healing session, I sit with the client and we discuss their experience– any sensations, emotions, or imagery that may have emerged. Both myself and my clients often will have had visual experiences, which can sometimes require symbolic interpretation. Each session is completely unique and there’s always something new that the practice is able to teach. In addition to the energy work, I often make herbal recommendations for clients that are interested in learning more about natural medicinal alternatives. There are many herbs that work synergistically with the energy work that’s been conducted and can have compounding positive effects when used in combination.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me looks like making real impact in real lives. It means helping people transform. It means taking a baseline and helping clients get to where they want to be. For me, knowing that I’ve helped people navigate personal obstacles and get closer to their goals is the highest compliment and most meaningful metric of success.
