Rising Stars: Meet Vanessa Claudia Garcia Canto of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Claudia Garcia Canto.

Hi Vanessa Claudia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a professional artist and painter originally from Cuba. Since I was very young, I have been passionate about art and creativity. I studied at San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts, one of the most recognized art schools in Cuba, where I developed my artistic foundations and learned different techniques in painting and visual arts.

After moving to Miami, I continued growing as an artist while adapting to a new country and culture. I have worked in art restoration and enhancement at Park West Gallery and also worked with Miami Art Club. In addition, I have experience teaching art classes and creating commissioned artwork independently.

Art has always been more than a profession for me — it is a way to express emotions, connect with people, and continue evolving creatively. Recently, I have also started exploring architecture and design studies at Miami Dade College because I enjoy combining creativity, structure, and visual storytelling.

My journey has included many challenges, especially adapting to a new environment and building opportunities from scratch, but those experiences have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Today, I continue working on my artistic projects, developing my skills, and exploring new creative paths while sharing my work with others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has definitely not been an easy path. One of the biggest challenges has been adapting to a new country, a new culture, and a new language while trying to continue growing professionally as an artist. Starting over in a different place requires a lot of patience, discipline, and self-confidence.

Like many artists, I have also faced moments of doubt, uncertainty, and pressure about the future. The art world can be competitive and unpredictable, and sometimes it is difficult to find stability while maintaining creativity and passion.

Another important challenge has been balancing different responsibilities while continuing to develop my artistic projects and studies. However, all of those experiences have helped me grow emotionally and become a stronger and more resilient person.

Despite the difficulties, I have always tried to stay focused on my goals and continue creating. I believe every obstacle has taught me something valuable and helped me evolve both personally and artistically.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a painter and visual artist, and my work is born from the search for a deep connection between human beings and nature. Many of my artworks are inspired by landscapes, the spirituality of the natural environment, and the emotions that emerge when people feel in harmony with the world around them.

Through my paintings, I explore themes such as inner silence, freedom, introspection, and the emotional relationship between people and the land. One of the central elements in my work is the American landscape and the figure of the cowboy, symbols of strength, independence, and communion with nature. I am also interested in representing moments of calm and contemplation, where human beings and their surroundings seem connected in a more spiritual and authentic way.

My goal is not only to create visually appealing images, but also to convey sensations and awaken feelings of belonging, respect, and admiration for nature in the viewer. I consider art a way of expressing things that often cannot be explained through words.

In addition to creating original artwork, I also have experience in art restoration and enhancement, as well as teaching art classes. I recently started studying architecture and design because I enjoy exploring new forms of creativity and visual expression.

I am especially proud of continuing to develop my artistic career while adapting to a new life in another country. That experience has strengthened both my artistic vision and my personal growth.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is that, although my work often conveys calmness, spirituality, and a deep connection with nature, behind each piece there is a very intense and personal emotional process. Many of my paintings are born from moments of introspection, silence, and inner reflection.

I also think some people do not expect me to combine a very emotional artistic sensitivity with constant discipline in work and study. I enjoy continuing to learn, exploring new forms of creativity, and constantly developing my artistic vision.

Another thing that may surprise people is that much of my inspiration comes from small everyday moments in nature: light, silence, open landscapes, or even emotional sensations that are difficult to explain with words. For me, painting is almost a form of meditation and spiritual connection.
