Check Out Imene McCoy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imene McCoy.

Hi Imene, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey didn’t start in bridal — it started with watching my mom. We left North Africa for London when I was five, and she worked relentlessly to give us a life, never hiding what it cost her. That became my blueprint: keep going, no matter what.

At 18, my family and I moved to the U.S. and settled in Kansas City, where I met my husband Tim. I had always dreamed of being a wife and mom — I never imagined being a business owner. But on our first anniversary in 2012, Tim and I sat in a hotel room at the Lake of the Ozarks building a website, and six weeks later Savvy Bridal was born.

The road since has taught me everything. We opened a second concept, Simply Savvy, in Lawrence, KS, and it did really well — but I started to see it was pulling energy and focus away from our flagship store. Making the call to close a successful business was hard, but that chapter taught me how to run more than one location: managing staff across stores, building systems, and protecting the brand we’d worked so hard to build. Six months after closing Simply Savvy, we opened Savvy Bridal STL in the historic Lafayette Square — and this time, I was ready.

Today we’re a collective of three boutiques — Kansas City, St. Louis, and Fort Lauderdale — and we’ve had the privilege of helping more than 8,000 brides find their gowns. Every step of growth came from a lesson I had to learn the hard way. I never dreamed of bridal, but now it’s everything to me — and I think that’s exactly the point. The things worth building rarely look like what you planned.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, no — it’s been anything but smooth. We’ve weathered COVID, economic downturns, and the kind of moment every business owner dreads: discovering a store manager had stolen tens of thousands of dollars from us. On top of that, the bridal industry itself is constantly shifting — buying trends move fast, social media changes the rules overnight, and influencer culture has completely reshaped how brides discover and shop for their gowns.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that pivoting is our specialty. We thrive on change. Every setback has forced us to get sharper — better systems, better hiring, better instincts about what’s coming next. The challenges haven’t slowed us down; they’ve shaped us into the team and the brand we are today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the founder and CEO of Savvy Bridal Collective and Vow Ready, a growing bridal retail company focused on redefining what the bridal shopping experience should feel like. We currently operate luxury bridal boutiques in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Fort Lauderdale, alongside our off-the-rack concept, Vow Ready, which was created for brides shopping on shorter timelines who still want an elevated experience.

What we specialize in is hospitality-driven bridal retail. At the core of our company is the belief that bridal shopping should feel personal, intentional, and emotionally memorable — not transactional. Every bride receives a private suite experience, dedicated one-on-one styling, and access to a curated selection of gowns that balance timeless elegance with modern design. We’re known for combining luxury service with accessibility, offering designer gowns at approachable price points while maintaining a highly elevated customer experience.

We’re also known for having one of the strongest plus-size bridal selections in the country. That’s something I care deeply about because every bride deserves to feel celebrated, confident, and genuinely seen during such an important milestone in her life.

Beyond the dresses themselves, what truly sets us apart is our culture and operational philosophy. I’ve spent years building systems, training, and leadership standards centered around hospitality, emotional intelligence, and customer experience. We don’t just sell dresses — we create moments brides remember for the rest of their lives. That mindset influences everything from how our stores are designed to how our team communicates and serves people.

What I’m most proud of is the team and company culture we’ve built. We’ve helped more than 8,000 brides say “yes” to their dress, but even more meaningful to me is creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. Our team has been recognized as a Best Place to Work by our own employees, and that means more to me than any sales milestone ever could.

I’m also proud that we’ve grown organically by staying deeply committed to experience, innovation, and people-first leadership instead of chasing rapid growth for the sake of it. My goal has never been to become the biggest bridal company — it’s been to create a brand that brides trust, employees are proud to work for, and communities genuinely connect with.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my team and the culture we’ve built together. At the end of the day, businesses don’t succeed because of beautiful products or marketing alone — they succeed because of people. I truly believe that when you take care of your people, they take care of everything else.

Culture is the foundation of every experience we create. It impacts how our brides feel when they walk through the doors, how our team supports one another during stressful moments, and how we continue growing without losing who we are. I’ve worked very intentionally to create an environment where people feel valued, respected, supported, and challenged to grow both personally and professionally.

I’m proud that we’ve built a workplace where hospitality, accountability, warmth, and high standards can all exist together. I want our team to feel like they’re building a career and a future — not just clocking into a job. When people feel genuinely cared for, it changes the energy of an entire company, and our brides feel that immediately.

The culture at Savvy is incredibly personal to me because it reflects my own values. I care deeply about creating spaces that feel welcoming, intentional, uplifting, and full of heart. Watching our team grow, succeed, and take pride in what we’re building together is easily the most rewarding part of everything I do.
