Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Caren.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Alan Caren has spent more than 23 years working in real estate and construction management across Ireland and the United States. As founder and president of ACA Development, he brings a hands-on approach, deep industry knowledge, and a genuine passion for building exceptional homes.
Alan’s introduction to the industry came early. At just 15 years old, he began working alongside his father, Alan Caren Sr., at the family’s commercial property management company in Ireland. That experience gave him a strong foundation in discipline, problem-solving, and attention to detail — qualities that continue to shape the way he leads projects today.
Over the years, Alan has worked alongside internationally recognized architects including SAOTA, Paul McClean and Scott Mitchell, helping oversee residential projects with construction values ranging from $5 million to $150 million.
Known for his energy, straightforward approach, and ability to build strong relationships with clients and teams alike, Alan has built ACA Development around the idea that successful projects come from trust, communication, and careful execution. His role goes far beyond project management — he acts as a dedicated advocate for his clients throughout the entire process, ensuring every detail is thoughtfully managed from start to finish.
Today, Alan leads ACA Development from Miami with a team of 6 experienced development managers, managing high-end residential projects both locally and internationally, with a focus on creating homes that are not only beautifully designed, but exceptionally well executed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The industry is incredibly demanding — you’re managing large teams, tight timelines, rising costs, supply chain issues, permitting delays, and the expectations that come with building high-end custom homes.
One of the biggest lessons was learning that great projects are really about communication and systems. Early on, I saw how disorganized the construction process could become when there wasn’t clear oversight or accountability. That’s a big part of why ACA Development was built the way it was — to create a more structured, transparent process for clients.
Building a company also comes with personal sacrifices. There has been years of long hours, constantly solving problems, and taking on a lot of responsibility at a young age. But those experiences helped shape the way we operate today and taught me the importance of staying adaptable, calm under pressure, and always focused on the client’s best interests.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ACA development?
ACA Development is a Miami-based project and development management firm specializing in high-end residential construction. We represent homeowners and developers throughout the entire building process, acting as the client’s dedicated advocate from early planning and design through construction and final delivery.
What makes our company unique is that we are completely client-focused. Our role is not just to manage a construction project — it’s to protect our clients’ interests, bring structure to a very complex process, and ensure the final result reflects the original vision at the highest level possible. We oversee every moving part of a project including budgeting, scheduling, design coordination, quality control, contractor management, and day-to-day execution.
Over the years, we’ve managed projects ranging from $5 million to over $150 million, collaborating with some of the world’s leading architects and design teams on custom homes in Miami and other prestigious locations internationally. We specialize in highly detailed, one-of-a-kind residences where execution and attention to detail are everything.
What sets ACA apart is our level of involvement and the systems we’ve built around communication and project oversight. Construction can often feel overwhelming and disorganized for clients, especially at the luxury level where there are countless decisions and moving parts. We’ve created a framework that gives clients clarity, transparency, and confidence throughout the process.
We’re also proud of the culture we’ve built as a company. While we take the work very seriously, we pride ourselves on being approachable, collaborative, and enjoyable to work with. Relationships are a huge part of this business, and many of our projects come through referrals and long-standing client relationships, which means a lot to us.
At the core of the brand is a genuine passion for building exceptional homes and delivering a level of service that clients can trust. We want readers to know that ACA Development is not just about luxury construction — it’s about creating an experience where clients feel supported, informed, and excited throughout the journey of building their home.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think luck definitely plays a role in life and business, but I also believe you have to put yourself in a position to recognize and take advantage of opportunities when they come. One moment that really shaped my life happened when I first came to the United States from Ireland. I was only days away from giving up on the idea of building a life and career in America and returning home when I was offered my first job in New York City. That opportunity completely changed the direction of my life and became the starting point of my journey in the U.S. real estate development world.
Another major turning point came years later when I moved to Miami at the end of 2019 — just before COVID and right before the Florida property market experienced an incredible boom. Looking back, that was definitely a right-place, right-time moment. Miami quickly became one of the most active luxury residential markets in the country, and being here during that period opened the door to incredible opportunities, relationships, and projects that helped shape ACA Development into what it is today.
At the same time, I don’t think luck alone creates success. Both of those moments only mattered because I was prepared to work hard and fully commit when the opportunities presented themselves. Construction and development also come with plenty of “bad luck” — market shifts, delays, supply chain issues, difficult projects, and unexpected challenges that are simply part of the business. Those experiences force you to adapt quickly and become a better problem solver.
Over time, I’ve realized that some of the biggest opportunities often come out of the most difficult moments. Challenges push you to improve, communicate better, and build stronger systems and relationships. I think long-term success is really a combination of timing, resilience, consistency, and being prepared when opportunities present themselves.
Most of all, I feel fortunate to genuinely love what I do. Building homes has been a passion of mine since I was young, and being able to turn that passion into a career and business in the United States is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
