Today we’d like to introduce you to Oriana Higuera.
Hi Oriana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey with photography truly began on January 23, 2016. A friend asked me to photograph her daughter, who has Down syndrome, at a park. I showed up with my camera in my hands, shooting completely in automatic mode, honestly knowing almost nothing about photography at the time.
But during that session, I captured one image that changed everything for me. I still remember looking at that photo and feeling something click inside me. In that moment, I thought, “This is what I want to do.”
That experience opened something much deeper than photography for me. It made me realize the power of making people feel seen, valued, and beautiful through an image.
Years later, that moment became the foundation of Oriana Higuera Photography. Today, I work as a photographer, artist, and business owner creating human-centered experiences through photography for brands, professionals, events, and women through my wellness-focused brand OHB Studio. But everything started with that little girl, one photo, and one life-changing moment in a park.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, especially immigrants, I had to build everything from zero while learning at the same time. When I started, I did not know much about photography, business, marketing, pricing, or even how to believe in myself as an artist.
One of the biggest struggles was balancing the creative side with the business side. People often see the final photos, but behind them there are long hours, financial pressure, sacrifices, and moments of doubt. There were times when I questioned if I was good enough or if I could really turn this into a sustainable business.
Another challenge was learning to trust my own vision. In the beginning, I focused a lot on trying to fit into what I thought the photography industry expected. Over time, I realized my strength was not just taking beautiful photos, but creating experiences where people feel comfortable, understood, and truly seen.
I also think being a woman entrepreneur comes with its own challenges. You wear many hats at the same time: artist, business owner, marketer, editor, leader, and sometimes even emotional support for your clients.
But honestly, every struggle shaped the way I work today. It taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of building a business with purpose and humanity, not just pretty images.
As you know, we’re big fans of Oriana Higuera Photography Corp. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Oriana Higuera Photography is a South Florida-based photography studio focused on creating human-centered experiences through photography. We work with professionals, brands, events, couples, and families, always with the goal of creating images that feel real, emotional, and connected.
Over the years, I realized that people remember much more than the final photo. They remember how they felt during the experience. Because of that, my brand has never been only about photography. It is about helping people feel comfortable, guided, respected, and truly seen in front of the camera.
I specialize in branding photography, corporate events, weddings, and portrait experiences. I am especially known for capturing authentic emotions and natural interactions instead of overly posed moments. Many clients tell me that working with us feels more personal and human than they expected from a photography experience.
One thing that sets us apart is the level of care we put into the process before, during, and after every session. From preparation guides to helping clients feel confident in front of the camera, we focus heavily on the human side of the experience.
I am also very proud of creating OHB Studio, a wellness-focused photography experience designed to help women reconnect with themselves through art, self-love, and storytelling. That brand represents a very personal part of my mission as an artist.
More than anything, I want readers to know that my work is deeply rooted in connection and purpose. For me, photography is not only about documenting people. It is about honoring their essence and creating images that make them feel something when they look back years later.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is being able to dream and having the freedom to work for those dreams. As simple as that.
Coming from Venezuela and rebuilding my life and career in the United States, I learned that success is not something you arrive at one day. It is having the opportunity to keep creating, growing, and building a life that feels meaningful to you.
Of course, I feel proud of the business, the projects, and the recognition along the way, but what matters most to me is waking up every day knowing I am working toward something I truly believe in. That freedom is what success means to me.
