Community Highlights: Meet Benjo Hamo of Benjo Interior Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjo Hamo.

Hi Benjo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career in interior design in Israel before moving to South Florida and rebuilding my business from the ground up. What began as a one person design practice has grown into Benjo Interior Design, a more structured luxury interior design studio serving Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and the surrounding South Florida market.

Over the past few years, the studio has grown both creatively and operationally. I recently expanded the team with two new hires, Hannah and Karolina, which has allowed me to create a stronger process and a more elevated client experience.

Today, my work is much more focused. I design high end residential interiors for successful professionals and entrepreneurs, including many within the LGBTQ+ community, who want a home that feels refined, personal, sophisticated, and deeply connected to their lifestyle.

My goal is always to create a home that feels impressive, comfortable, and truly individual, while guiding the client through a clear and structured design process.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest challenge has been learning how to grow from being only a designer into being the owner of a real design studio.

In the beginning, everything depended on me: the design work, client communication, sourcing, project coordination, business decisions, and marketing. That can work for a while, but it is not sustainable if you want to serve clients at a high level.

Over time, I had to learn how to create systems, communicate my value more clearly, charge appropriately, and become more selective about the projects I take on. That shift changed everything. It allowed me to stop trying to be the right designer for everyone and instead focus on the clients and homes where I can create the strongest result.

The business is still growing, but today it feels much more intentional. I am building a studio with a clear point of view, a defined process, and a stronger foundation for the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Benjo Interior Design?
The name of my business is Benjo Interior Design.

We are a South Florida luxury interior design studio specializing in high end residential interiors throughout Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Our work focuses on contemporary, refined homes with warmth, personality, and a strong sense of lifestyle.

Many of our clients are successful professionals, entrepreneurs, and members of the LGBTQ+ community who want their home to feel elevated and personal, but do not want to be overwhelmed by every design decision. We guide them through the process, from the overall vision to layouts, finishes, furniture, lighting, styling, and the details that make a home feel complete.

I am especially known for creating interiors that feel sophisticated, masculine, warm, and livable. The goal is never to create a showroom. The goal is to create a home that feels like the best version of the client’s life.

What sets the studio apart is the balance between creativity and structure. I bring a strong design point of view, but I also care deeply about the process. Clients want beauty, but they also want clarity, guidance, and confidence that the decisions being made will work together.

Brand wise, I am most proud that Benjo Interior Design has become more specific and more confident. I know who I serve, what kind of homes I want to create, and the kind of experience I want my clients to have.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to get clear as early as possible on who you want to serve and what kind of work you want to be known for.

At the beginning, it is easy to say yes to everything because you want the experience and the income. But over time, saying yes to the wrong projects can slow you down and confuse your brand.

I also wish I understood earlier that talent is only one part of building a business. You need systems, boundaries, pricing, communication, and a clear process. Clients are not just paying for pretty ideas. They are paying for leadership, clarity, and the ability to take a complicated process and make it feel manageable.

The more seriously you treat your business, the more seriously the right clients will treat you.

Pricing:

  • Pricing depends on the size, scope, and level of involvement required for each project. Benjo Interior Design typically begins with a discovery process to understand the client’s goals, project needs, timeline, and overall investment before creating a tailored proposal.
