Check Out Maylin Caamano’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maylin Caamano.

Hi Maylin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I often say that my story did not begin when I arrived in Canada. In many ways, it began much earlier in Cuba. I grew up in a very humble family with very little. There were times when opportunities were limited and life was not easy, but growing up with so little taught me resilience, gratitude, and the ability to keep moving forward even during difficult seasons.

I came to Canada from Cuba in 2009 with very little English and a lot of uncertainty about what my future would look like. Like many immigrants, I started from the bottom, working in retail and cleaning in the back of stores before eventually moving to the front as my English improved. Soon after, I became a mother, and my life changed completely when my daughter was diagnosed with autism. Not long after her diagnosis, my marriage ended and i was broke and broken.
suddenly found myself navigating single motherhood, financial hardship, and survival on my own.

Those years were some of the hardest of my life. Finding stable work while caring for a child with special needs was extremely difficult. There were moments when life felt heavy financially, emotionally, and mentally. Canada gave us support and opportunities to begin rebuilding our lives, and for that I will always be grateful. But I also learned that creating stability still required enormous sacrifice, resilience, and determination.

I eventually decided to return to school because it gave me access to childcare support while I studied. I attended Sheridan College, where I improved my English and studied advertising and marketing. That experience became the foundation for what would later become my business. While raising my daughter, I worked cleaning jobs whenever I could, often relying on friends to help so I could continue moving forward.

Over time, what started as survival slowly turned into purpose. I opened my own cleaning business and began applying the business and marketing skills I had learned in school. Today, I run HD Cleaning Professionals, something I once could never have imagined when I first arrived in Canada struggling to communicate in English.

At the same time, I felt a strong need to reconnect with another part of myself through books and writing. During some of the hardest years of my life, I experienced emotional challenges, unhealthy relationships, and the effects of unresolved trauma. That journey eventually inspired me to write The Woman’s Journey Within, a book focused on healing, self awareness, emotional growth, and understanding how our wounds can shape the relationships we choose.

Today, I am in a much happier and more peaceful place in my life. My story is one of resilience, healing, motherhood, immigration, and rebuilding from the ground up. More than anything, I hope my journey reminds others that where you begin does not have to determine where you end up.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I look back, it definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I faced when I came to Canada from Cuba in 2009 was starting over completely. I arrived with very limited English, little financial stability, and very little support around me. I did not have family nearby, and everything felt unfamiliar. Simple things many people take for granted, like communicating confidently, understanding systems, finding opportunities, or simply navigating daily life, felt overwhelming in the beginning.

As a single mother raising my daughter Mariana, who is autistic, life brought additional challenges that many people do not always see. There were periods where balancing work, appointments, motherhood, and everyday responsibilities felt emotionally and physically exhausting. Maintaining stability was not always easy because my priorities often required me to put my daughter’s needs first.

Financially, there were difficult seasons where I felt uncertain, isolated, and stretched in many directions. I worked whenever opportunities came, continued learning, attended college, and kept searching for ways to create a better future. There were moments when I truly did not know how everything would come together, but I kept moving forward one step at a time.

Looking back now, I realize those struggles shaped me in ways I could not see at the time. They taught me resilience, compassion, independence, and perseverance. They became the foundation for the woman, mother, business owner, and writer I am today. I believe some of our hardest seasons can also become the experiences that give us purpose and allow us to connect with others more deeply.

I also intentionally kept out repeating too much about books and writing since you already answered that above. This one focuses more on the road and the struggle, while still sounding hopeful and strong.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a business owner, author, and mother who believes that some of our greatest challenges can become our greatest purpose. I own HD Cleaning Professionals, a cleaning company specializing in post construction, deep cleaning, and creating clean spaces that help people start fresh. Building my business taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of hard work. I take pride in growing something from the ground up while balancing motherhood and the responsibilities of everyday life.

My journey has not always been easy. When I came to Canada, one of my biggest challenges was the language barrier. I became determined to learn and improve, and books became a huge part of that journey. I spent years reading self help, psychology, healing, and personal development books, most of them in English. Reading helped me strengthen my communication skills, expand my vocabulary, and build confidence in myself. Over time, I realized that books were not only teaching me language, they were helping me understand trauma, emotions, relationships, and healing.

That journey eventually inspired me to become a writer. I wrote The Woman’s Journey Within, a book centered around healing, self awareness, and breaking unhealthy emotional cycles. Writing became a way for me to process experiences and hopefully help others feel seen and understood.

What I am most proud of is not one accomplishment, but the journey itself. I am proud that despite challenges, financial struggles, and moments of uncertainty, I kept moving forward. I built a business, found my voice, and transformed difficult experiences into something meaningful.

What sets me apart is that I do not speak only from knowledge or theory. I speak from lived experience. Whether through my business, my writing, or sharing my story, my goal has always been to help others feel inspired, understood, and reminded that growth and healing are possible.

Outside of work, I enjoy being involved in my community, spending time in faith and reflection, riding motorcycles, and continuing to learn and grow. Those moments remind me to stay connected to myself, to people, and to the things that bring meaning and joy into life.

This reads more like a magazine interview profile and feels like Maylin the whole person, not just one role.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very shy and sensitive person. I came from a poor background in Cuba, and many times life felt uncertain and unstable. Although I was born in Havana, my mother later moved us to the countryside, where conditions were often difficult. Food was limited, resources were scarce, and having new clothes or basic things was not common. Sometimes birthdays were the only moments we might receive something new. Looking back now, I realize that many of those years were marked by struggle and survival.

I often felt emotionally unseen and silenced while growing up. I learned very early to stay quiet, not take up too much space, and keep my feelings to myself. I struggled with insecurity, fear, and feeling like my voice did not matter. For a long time, I carried the belief that I had to remain small in order to survive emotionally.

As I grew older, I realized I had to overcome those fears little by little. Every challenge became a battle against the voice inside my head telling me I was not enough, not strong enough, or not capable enough. I had to learn how to defend myself, advocate for myself, speak up, and face situations that once terrified me. Many of the qualities people now see as strength were built through years of overcoming fear, pain, and self doubt.

When my daughter came into my life, everything changed. Becoming a mother, especially to a child with autism, forced me to become stronger than I ever imagined I could be. I knew I had to become the support system I never fully had growing up. That responsibility pushed me to grow, heal, and fight for both of us. In many ways, motherhood transformed my personality and taught me how to finally step into my own voice and strength.
