Today we’d like to introduce you to Daliany Camacho Asprilla.
Hi Daliany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia to two Colombian parents and grew up as the third of five children. After my father toured internationally with a well-known salsa band, he discovered new opportunities in Miami, which eventually led my family to immigrate there. Since then, Miami has become the place I’ve called home. I was raised in West Kendall, Florida, where I attended home schools before continuing my education at Miami Dade College and now Florida International University. Growing up, music was always woven into my daily life. Whether it was hearing my father practice trombone, taking piano lessons with my brother, yelling at my youngest brother to stop playing the drums so hard, practicing vocals with my sisters, or listening to my mother sing vallenato all the time, music was constantly surrounding me. My parents also encouraged my creativity by involving me in musical and televised programs throughout my childhood, which helped shape my love and appreciation for many different genres of music. As I got older, I slowly began stepping into my own as an artist. During college, I landed a position as a vocal instructor, which helped me grow more confident in both my voice and myself. Over time, performing became something deeply personal to me, and I’ve continued developing my craft through live performances, jazz standards, and now writing original music of my own. Today, I’m balancing school, work, music, and content creation while continuing to grow creatively and professionally. I’m still learning, evolving, and working hard every day, but I’m proud of the journey so far and excited for everything that’s ahead.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road, but I’m very grateful for every step of the journey. I try to face every challenge with grace and see it as an opportunity to grow and learn. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing full time work while pursuing my degree and continuing to chase my dreams in music and content creation. Most days, I leave work and head straight to school, which can be exhausting at times, but it has taught me discipline, resilience, and gratitude. Overall, I feel very blessed, and I believe every challenge has shaped me into the person I am becoming.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and Business Analytics, with a set graduation in December 2026, while also working full time as a Program Manager for the Blind Senior Group Department at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind. In my role, I oversee and coordinate the entire program, from planning trips and events for our seniors to helping them navigate personal needs, government assistance, and everyday support. One of the most meaningful parts of my work is simply spending time with them, listening to their stories, and creating a sense of community. Through my work with the organization, I also have the opportunity to perform professionally at private events, galas, gatherings, and recordings for original music projects and CDs. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I’ve come to specialize in jazz standards, performing at venues across Miami including Armstrong Jazz House and the Biltmore. Growing up around music allowed me to develop my voice over time, and I believe the warmth and brightness in my vocals are what set me apart as an artist. What I’m most proud of is being able to combine purpose, creativity, and service in everything I do. My work at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind has been incredibly fulfilling, and alongside that, I take great pride in my educational journey and personal growth. Outside of work and music, I also enjoy documenting my experiences on social media, especially my journey reconnecting with my Colombian culture and rediscovering my roots as an Afro Latina living and learning in Miami.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising about me is that I’m a bit of a thrill seeker, although I may not seem like it. I love trying new things because you never really know what you might love until you experience it for yourself. Whether it’s new foods, new places, something exciting, or even something that scares me a little, I’m always looking to grow through new experiences. I think there’s something valuable in trying almost everything at least once because it expands your mind and teaches you something new.
