Life & Work with Adrian Mata of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Mata.

Hi Adrian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for photography started right after high school. I got a film camera for my birthday and never looked back. My family didn’t have much, so when I saved up for a digital camera, it meant everything to me.
I practiced for years and started sharing my work online. That led to my first real photography job at local night clubs. It was a great place to learn. I had to figure out ambient lighting and flash photography fast. I also met a lot of people there, including other business owners. That opened the door to commercial marketing and advertising work.
Once I felt ready, I started my own business. Right around that time, a close friend gave me my first wedding shoot. I fell in love with it. I poured myself into building a portfolio and a brand. Five years later, I am proud of how far I have come.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Good things take time. Building a business is a risk, and failure is part of it. My biggest struggles have been learning how to run a photography business and managing clients. The truth is, you don’t always get to work with people you click with.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Wedding photography is my specialty. I have a lot of experience in commercial work too, but weddings hold a special place for me. I am a hopeless romantic at heart.
What sets me apart is how much I care. Every wedding is unique. I work closely with each couple to make sure their photos reflect who they are and the love they have for each other.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck had nothing to do with where I am today. Everything I have accomplished came from hard work. A lot of sweat, some tears of joy, and plenty of long days. When it comes to business, what you put in is what you get back.
