Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Marcus Payne.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in church. Started my musical journey playing the drums in my parents church. By the time I got to high school, I was very skilled on the drums. When I got to college at Florida Memorial University I started playing guitar. Being in that environment of musicians really grew me at a rapid rate. I met like minded guys who were also interested in being creative and growing their craft. We started out going to local jam sessions and making our mark in the local music scene. Things kinda grew from there. We started recording and creating. Opportunities started to come, from playing at some of the biggest venues across the state, opening for artists and various other opportunities. Which leads me to where I am now. Musician, singer/songwriter and Professor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hell yea there were struggles. Being consistent over time is a hard thing. Especially when you’re in a group. The hardest thing about being in a group is being in a group. So many ups and downs. So many investments, time, money, sleep and stress. It is definitely a challenge to keep going. Me and the fellas are not in a musical group anymore, but we still support each other in our endeavors.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am Aaron Marcus Payne. I am a musician, singer, songwriter and producer. I am most known as a guitarist. But I do so much more. I am most proud of the two recent EPs Ive just released. One is a Blues EP called “Lauderdale Blues” and the other is a R&B EP called “The Reservoir”. Both tell a different story. Lauderdale Blues is raw and reflective a soundtrack to the hard times growing up in Ft. Lauderdale. It’s about struggle, survival, and the realities that shape who we become. The Reservoir moves in a different direction smooth, emotional R&B that dives into life, love, and the experiences that fill us up and pour out of us. One project speaks from the streets. The other speaks from the soul. Together, they tell the full story. This is also the first time Ive had complete creative control on a project. I know my style is unique. I dont really follow anyones blueprint or genre rules. I just make music that feels good to me.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue making music and being creative. Keep growing and getting better everyday.
