Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivania Rodriguez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Ivania, aka redlipsivania-a miami hispanic native artist that’s obsessed with love. Broken hearted too many times to count, I began to write love letters. Love letters that turned into Spilled Milks; the pinkest, deepest, saddest parts of me. Each Spilled Milk is a poem alongside a doodle I would make. Each one is suppose to feel unfinished. I drew enough of these that people grew to like them and so I decided to do an art show called, Pieces of Me. I featured my Spilled Milks, my photography pieces of places I had fallen in love, and a short film dedicated to my last love called “How Many Kisses”. I’ve had two art shows all in Miami. It’s so beautiful to see people see the most rawest form of me and have it resonate with them. It’s even better when a muse of mine get’s to experience what came out of our love story. My goal as an artist has always been the same, to have people feel like they’re falling in love with my work. The tears I’ve seen people shed seeing my work makes me think I’ve accomplished just that. May I continue to do so.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The challenges I faced besides budget, was vulnerability. I was so afraid to have so many people know the real me. I don’t show everyone my pinkest, deepest self. I’m a very bubbly person and to have everyone truly see how sad I can get is very hard. To stand up there by myself and have others weep while seeing my work is rewarding but scary.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m currently a photographer and a pilates instructor. I’m a dancer at heart so movement is my medicine. Writing love letters are a need. I’m most proud of my interactive experience I do in my art shows. I edited my voice and my singer friend, Lorenzo to deliver an 8D experience, having you hear a date I mixed together. Then having you sit down and hear the breakup phone call. I love creating story lines and having people experience love and heartbreak nearly the way I did. I still write my love letters and still turn them into Spilled Milks, since people seem to enjoy them.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I had huge help from my friend A.B Stills with “How Many Kisses” short film. I couldn’t have done the interactive pieces without Lorenzo. I especially could not have done anything without mi mamá, Janet Rodriguez and the rest of my family. Sandra Urgelles, my best friend who pushed me creatively for the art show and for helping me put the events together. Of course, all of my friends who actually showed up to my shows. Sometimes that’s all it takes. The biggest thank you of all, is my last love story, nothing could have been possible if it wasn’t for our love. Thank you for being my muse.
