Today we’d like to introduce you to Edly Herrera.
Hi Edly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Owl Bookkeeping Co. with a pretty simple goal: to make financial clarity more accessible for small business owners who are great at what they do, but don’t necessarily love the numbers side of things.
My background is rooted in technology and business operations, and over time I saw a consistent pattern, so many entrepreneurs were either overwhelmed by their books or making decisions without really understanding their financials. That gap can hold a business back, even when everything else is going right.
In 2025, I met my business Partner, Matias, in the same company I was working for at the time. Every single day during our lunch break, we discussed, planned, and designed our business structure. One month later, we launched Owl Bookkeeping Co.
What began as helping a few businesses get organized quickly turned into something much bigger. As we worked with more clients, we realized that bookkeeping isn’t just about staying compliant, it’s about giving business owners confidence, control, and the ability to grow intentionally.
Today, Owl Bookkeeping Co. has evolved into a partner for entrepreneurs who want more than just clean books. We focus on creating systems, providing clarity, and helping our clients actually use their numbers to make smarter decisions. It’s been a really organic journey, built on relationships, trust, and a genuine passion for helping businesses succeed.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, and I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs, even if it doesn’t always look that way from the outside.
In the early stages, one of the biggest challenges was wearing every hat at once. We weren’t just doing the bookkeeping, we were was also handling sales, marketing, client communication, systems, and all the behind-the-scenes operations. Learning how to balance all of that, while still delivering a high level of service took time.
Another challenge was setting boundaries and valuing our work appropriately. Like many service-based business owners, there’s a learning curve when it comes to pricing, scope, and making sure you’re building something sustainable, not just saying yes to everything.
There’s also the natural uncertainty that comes with growing a business, figuring out how to scale, when to invest, and how to build processes that can support growth without sacrificing quality.
That said, each of those challenges has really shaped how Owl Bookkeeping Co. operates today. They’ve pushed us to build better systems, be more intentional about the clients we serve, and focus on creating a business that’s both effective and sustainable in the long run.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Owl Bookkeeping Co. is a boutique bookkeeping and accounting firm built for entrepreneurs who want more than just someone to “do their books.” We specialize in working with service-based businesses and creatives who are ready to get organized, understand their numbers, and actually use their financials to make smarter decisions.
At our core, we handle the essentials, monthly bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax preparation and filing, tax strategy and planning, and business structuring and consulting, but what really sets us apart is how we approach the work. We don’t just categorize transactions and send reports; we focus on clarity and communication. Our clients understand what their numbers mean, not just what they are.
We’re known for creating structure where there’s been chaos, simplifying complex financial situations, and helping business owners feel more confident and in control. A lot of our clients come to us overwhelmed or behind, and one of the things we take the most pride in is turning that experience into something that feels manageable and even empowering.
Brand-wise, I’m especially proud that Owl Bookkeeping Co. has grown in a very intentional way. It’s built on trust, strong client relationships, and a reputation for being both detail-oriented and genuinely supportive. We’ve created a brand that feels approachable but still highly professional, where clients feel comfortable asking questions, but also know they’re getting a high level of expertise.
What I want readers to know is that bookkeeping doesn’t have to feel intimidating or reactive. When it’s done right, it becomes a tool for growth. Our goal is to give business owners the clarity and systems they need so they can focus on what they do best, while making confident, informed decisions behind the scenes.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
One of the most important qualities behind my success has been consistency.
Building a business isn’t about one big moment, it’s about showing up over and over again, even when things feel uncertain, slow, or challenging. There were times early on where growth wasn’t immediate, or where I was figuring things out in real time, but staying consistent in the quality of my work and the way I showed up for clients made all the difference.
I also think adaptability has played a big role. Every stage of business requires a different version of you, different systems, different decisions, and a willingness to evolve. Being open to learning, refining processes, and adjusting as the business grows has been key.
At the end of the day, I’ve always focused on doing things well, being reliable, and building trust. In a service-based business like bookkeeping, that consistency and trust compound over time, and that’s really what creates long-term success.
