Inspiring Conversations with Mirna Barake of Mirna Barake Design, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mirna Barake.

Hi Mirna , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in interior design and opened my studio in 2009, focusing on high-end renovations and remodeling. Early on, I developed a strong understanding of how spaces function, not just aesthetically, but technically.

Around 2017, I was searching for a home for my own family and couldn’t find anything that met my standards in terms of design, layout, and overall vision. That moment pushed me to step into development, I decided to create it myself.

Since then, my work has evolved into a full design-build approach. I’m involved from pre construction through completion, which allows me to control both the design integrity and the execution. Today, my primary focus is ground-up construction, creating refined, architecturally driven homes where every detail is intentional from the very beginning.

What makes my approach different is that I don’t see design and construction as separate. I understand both sides, so I’m able to create projects that are not only beautiful, but also well executed and realistic to build.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Development comes with its own set of challenges, from permitting and financing to managing the complexity of construction. But one of the most defining challenges has been working within a traditionally male-dominated industry.

It requires not only technical knowledge, but also a strong sense of leadership and clarity in communication. Over time, I’ve learned how to navigate that space with confidence while maintaining the level of precision and quality my work demands

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is a boutique design and development firm where we approach projects from a full design-build perspective. We’re involved from the earliest stages, concept, planning, and budgeting, through construction and final finishes.

What sets us apart is the ability to bridge creativity with execution. We’re not just designing concepts, we’re deeply involved in how those ideas are built, which ensures a higher level of precision and quality.

As a brand, I’m most proud of the integrity of the work. There’s a clear identity, timeless, minimal, and intentional, and that consistency is something I’ve built very consciously.

I want people to understand that we’re not just an interior design studio, we’re a partner in the entire process of creating a home.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the process of creating and growing, both in my projects and in my business. As an entrepreneur, I find a lot of fulfillment in building something that reflects my vision.

There’s something very satisfying about starting with an empty lot or an unfinished space and transforming it into something that people will actually live in and experience every day. That process is what drives me.
